on the verge of buying a C500, I have a few thoughts:

I have got a couple of EF lensens and a couple of Zeiss ZE lenses, so getting an EF version would seem the natural choice (I'm also a photographer that uses these lenses).
Will these lenses hold up in 4K?

Am I right there a zero differences between C300 and C500 when not using a recorder?

No Proress possibilities, even with a recorder?

1DC jpegs in 4K are easy to use, how about that wktk the C500? stupid question probably, as that will depend on the recorder.

what are your thoughts?

I tried Canon EF 50mm/f1.2 vs. Canon prime cine lens 50mm (4K lens) and both produce the same optical result. But in the mechanical part there are big differences.

If you have good quality Canon L series lenses, then it is fine. Since you come from a photography background, I am sure you would have used all the L series lenses and would have narrowed down to a few. for example the 70-200 f2.8 L IS II is up there with cine glass in terms of image quality.

Cine quality construction or not, doesn't get reflected in the final image. Given that Canon is getting deeper into AF (though dual pixel Af is not there for C500), there would be more use of still lenses. Arrival of hand held gimbals, increases the appeal of still lenses as they are lighter and have image stabilisation.

The main challenge that I face while shooting with mostly still lenses with my C300 is fighting the perception of directors and producers.

The C300 has 8bit output. The C500 has 10bit out.

Both can use ProRes with external recorder, like the Convergent Design Odyssey 7Q or the Atomos.

With that recorder, is that Prores for HD only or also 4K. Do I have to pay extra for the Canon Codec software?

Not be difficult... but this stuff is pretty widely discussed on this forum and the internet in general.

Yes 7Q requires buying codecs. Atomos does not.
