C500: C500 and Shogun

Atomos have said that the Shogun will support C500 input. However, it's going to be limited to 30p due to the Shogun having only a single BNC input. The C500 requires outputting from two 3G-SDI terminals for frame rates over 30p. Also, initial recording will be limited to UHD resolutions, although DCI 4K is on the roadmap for features.

Thank you! So, 24p should be OK as well, correct?

Note that the ability to read RAW signals from cameras such as the C500 and the FS700 are not in the initial release of that product, but instead a future update.

Mitch,

Is it also true that the "September" firmware update of the O7Q will not support Canon Raw to ProRes either?

Thanks

Mitch is not representing Atomos and the Shogun. He is Convergent Design and Odyssey 7Q—that's a competing product.

You are both correct and I do not wish to be negative or out of line to anyone's product. Just imparting clear technical information in case anyone is confused.

And it is correct that the Odyssey7Q September firmware update will not include Canon 4K RAW to 4K ProRes. That feature will come later.

Back to the original question: The Odyssey7Q will record 4K ProRes from the Canon C500, but at a later date. It currently will record 4K and UHD RAW up to 60p (120p for "half RAW"). I believe Atomos has indicated that at a later date the Shogun will capture UHD RAW but have not stated up to what frame rate. I have not seen or heard of any 4K RAW to 4K ProRes functionality in the Shogun now or in the future. If I am incorrectly informed or if anyone has any further specific information I welcome the enlightenment.

I am aware that Mitch works for CD I was just verifying what I recently read about the c500's Canon Raw not being part of the September O7Q firmware upgrade. I hope someone gets the technology in place sooner rather than later.

Canon C500 RAW already is in place for Odyssey7Q. But not 4K RAW converted to 4K ProRes.

FWIW, as of 2015-03-18 and the 6.2 firmware, the Shogun still doesn't support 4K output of the C500, or any RAW output at all. It records ProRes HD just fine, but if I had realized it didn't actually support the C500 yet, we probably would have gone with a different solution.

To boot: In addition to RAW support for the C500, Convergent Design just released (2015-03-24) their latest firmware update for their Odyssey recorders that now allows Apple ProRes 422(HQ), Apple ProRes 422 and Apple ProRes 422(LT) recording from the C500 4K signal. Firmware Version 5.10.100

If the C500 gets updated this year I might look for a deal on the older model to use with the 7Q+ Might be a very good option for 4K ProRes.
