C500: C500 120 FPS workflow?

I believe that there is no HDMI port on the C500. The only way it outputs 4K is in RAW over SDI.

there is 1 actually, but i cant really understand what does it it used for ... is it monitor only or its ok for recording as well. here is some info (page 140):

i dont really need 4k raw, looking for the way to get HD/2K 10 bit pro res, and was wondering if its possible to do it over HDMI. O7Q+ is a great tool, and if ill buy c500 (at that price its hard to resist) i ll buy O7Q+ 100%, as its just a must have with c500, but its big + battery.... on some occasions i need to go handheld and want to stay as light as possible, so i would also buy some very simple and small recorder. i ve been looking around today and did not find anything bit Atomos ninja star , but its HDMI only

There are 3 ports whose basic function is monitoring, 1 is HDMI. The HDMI signal is 10 bit interlaced, so if the recorder could do pulldown, then I believe you can achieve your goal. For a small external recorder, what about a Ki Pro Mini? Has SDI, been around quite awhile and can be bought at a good price. I'll be testing this exact workflow out in a week or so as I just bought the C500 after the final price drop.

On on another note, the lack of ProRes on the C700 in 60p all but extinguishes whatever hope I have had that we'll ever see CD do it on the Odyssey. Truly curious about the Atomos Inferno and if it really will be able to deliver 4K60p. Though the track record of most companies today delivering on features listed to entice buyers is dubious at best.

Ki pro mini is still a big device and it needs a big battery (plus its price)! so the weight issue is still there. In any case ill get the odyssey 7q+ for regular tripod work + it has lots of options that will make it safe buy for the future! But i also want to get 1 extra really small recorder that could just record HD 10 bit, and seems like there is nothing smaller then Atomos ninja star, i wish CD could make something like that but with sdi!

i own C300 right now, and the way i go hand held i strip down it completely.... i went away from shoulder rigs..., i take the top handle and the monitor off and just use EVF, so i try to keep it as light as possible.... and thathttp://www.atomos.com/ninja-star/ Ninja Star recorder if its able to work with C500 ofcourse, could be a light weight solution for me (it can do 2:2/3:2 pulldown).
So if some one could confirm that C500 does send out a true 10 bit signal out of HDMI it would be great! i have also sent a question to the atomos...

Got replay from CANON:

Here I forward the answer I got from our product specialist:
HDMI is a 8bit signal. If you want 10bit than it’s the 3G SDI output that’s used and a recorder that can handle a 3G SDI signals.
HDMIHD 8-bit 4:2:2 (YPbPr) 1920x1080: 60i/59.94i/50i, 1280x720: 60p/59.94p/50pSD 8-bit 4:2:2 (YPbPr) 480: 59.94i, 576: 50i
3G SDI x2Output Modes: RAW (10-bit); RGB 4:4:4 (10-bit/12-bit); YCC 4:2:2 (10-bit)Frame Rates: 23.98p/24.00p/25.00p/29.97p/59.94p/50p

Just got a replay from Atomos - they say it will work... who is right? Does the HDMI out is 8 or 10 bit ?

In the past I have received pretty accurate replies from Canon, while replies from Atomos have been more variable. Besides 10bit or 8bit you also need Time Code & Record trigger. As I'm sure you know, the C300MK1 does not have that on it's HDMI port, not 100% sure about C500, but I suspect the C500 also lacks TC & Rec Trigger on HDMI. The C100 has this, of course.

just got one more replay from Canon :

I have spoken to our product specialist again and here is his answer:
The HDMI output is 8-Bit as mentioned.

The manual refers that the HDMI signal will be the same as the setting for the HD/SD SDI output.

The single HD/SD SDI output is 8-bit.
HD/SD SDIEmbedded audioHD 8-bit 4:2:2 (YPbPr) 1920x1080: 59.94i/50i/23.98/24.00, 1280x720: 59.94p/50p/23.98/24.00SD 8-bit 4:2:2 (YPbPr) 480: 59.94i, 576: 50i BNC Connector, output only

To get more than 8-bit it’s the 3G SDI:s that’s used.

how about the 2x monitor output; are these also 8bit ?

answer:
HDMI 8 bit / 2x monitor output 10 bit / 2x 3g output up to 12 bit /

best regards
