The book takes place in Baltimore and the storyline is about an isolated teenager who maybe is going down the wrong path. I pushed everything blue/green and desaturated quite a bit to suggest more of a bleakness to the story. Also to counter act the vibrant poppy colors of southern California. The final product was warmer and more natural in tone.

I've used the 17-120mm dozens of times, I like it for it's convenience, it has that warm Canon DNA and I think it edges past the Fuji 19-90 in terms of aesthetic, EF mount also a plus. But for narrative purposes I think it lacked character and the 70mm+ range for close ups, just felt too ENG for me. Something about that wide angle front element makes the long end of the lens less flattering. I think the two compact zooms offer a more cinematic look and the focus fall off is much smoother as well. When using the 17-120, my AC had a really tough time using the wireless follow focus with it, mechanics of that lens are setup very differently, more of a single operator lens.

I've owned the 30-105mm for about 10 months now and it's just incredible, after we wrapped this project I decided to pull the trigger on the 15-47mm. The canon's are sharper and have more range than the compact Angie Optimos, according to the DP of Homeland they also match the Cooke S4's better than the angies, which I was surprised by. I also considered the Zeiss compact zooms, but the look of those lenses is so different and after talking with some local rental houses it seems the Canon zooms are working quite often.
