C300: C300mk2 Thoughts & Frame Grabs

Hey folks,
I've got a handful of gigs under my belt with the mk2 now. I'm feeling quite confident with the camera and the images coming out of it. Log 2 for highlight situations and log 1 for low light or heavy shadow scenes. I've defaulted to diffusing the camera with promist or other softening filters when I'm using cinema glass. Though this camera has shown me how soft my 16-35mm 2.8 mkii is.

Certainly a handful of bugs in the camera, but I've spoken to several reps at Canon Hollywood and they're aware of them all.

Here are some colored grabs from a quick shoot last month. I have a few other projects that are wrapping up post that I'll be able to post to this thread soon.

Here are a few non-narrative projects featuring mk2's as well.

This was shot with two c300mk2's using Log2 with video matrix. Mk2 is his CU and the Med Wide on the singer. There's a mk1 on the jib and I think a gh4 and FS7 in the mix too. Though it looks like they had a case of "Log Love" and didn't bother to color much :(

This interview is Log 1/video matrix to match closer with the B-cam FS7... Also not colored. Was some of the cleanest footage I've seen and the the 24-70mm 2.8 mkii struck a great balance of sharpness on this one.

Beautiful stuff. Three very different looks, and I like all of them. I'm definitely impressed with the mkII, but I've got to say, viewing this on my computer, compressed for the web, the FS7 seems to hang in there on the interview. How do you think they compare?

The C300mk2 was set to LOG1/709/Video Matrix. We did manage to get them pretty close. The FS7 is a very capable camera and certainly for the money, however it's just not for me. I find the FS7 interface to be beyond terrible, the white balance/Gain 3-way toggle is antiquated. I'm instantly irratated when I have to dive into the menus on any sony camera. And at the end of the day I'm not a fan of the out of the box image.

I was matching burnt in color on cameras last night on another job with FS7 and C300mk1 and the wideDR profile on the canon's are quite pleasant. I found a few HG profiles I liked on the FS7, but I wish they would label them in a more logical fashion, rather than a stream of numbers.

I'll have a few more projects I'll be posting to this thread coming out in the next week or so.

Was testing the camera out in low profile mode yesterday. Just using the viewfinder with a 24mm pancake in AF mode. A surprisingly great image out of a very cheap lens.

12bit/CineGamut/Log2. Quick grade done in premiere.
