C300: C300mk2 real world footage and user reviews.

Is there a way to remap the dial on the side or the dial on the handgrip to do ISO instead of aperture? On the C300 Mark II both do aputure, while on the C300 Mark I I just used the dial on the left side of the camera did ISO and the dial on the hand grip did aperture.

Quick test shot, frame grab from 120 fps filmed in Wide DR at I think around ISO 1000 at f/1.8 with the Sigma 18-35, shutter at 1/120 (it should be at 1/240 for 120 fps, but there wasn't a lot of light and it was a quick test).

Pretty much void of any real detail and very similar to what most prosumer products are producing nowadays. Highest the mk ii should go is 60FPS without the crop, anything else is just a thin muddy mess..

Yes, there is a way to do that.

When the 5D Mark III was released, many complained that it was soft & mushy. A little post-sharpening and it can look a bit better (example I shot here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkFmhKoUEv4 ). I'll do a test with the C300II when I have time, I'm sure it can look acceptable for many uses. To get the same or better color quality and better slomo, looks like ARRI is the only option at a much higher price point (perhaps latest Red Dragon too. Sony is getting better, but not there yet).

It seems we all love the4K and normal speed and 2K 60P. So let's leave it for a while and really look into the 120p mode.

Please, anyone who has access to a C300,

-shoot absolutely anything, (this is no art, pure scientific evaluation)
-in correct 100% focus (stopped down a bit for ease)
-non-mushy lens like a 1970 Russian m42 (you get the point)
-Locked-off
-Normal ISO (650-5000 max)
-ETTR. DON'T get an image that needs any pushing-up, just down A Canon senors' law!
-Take/export a TIFF file from the NLE, upload it o any drive like google drive.

these are all to avoid all the other non-camera-related softening factors.

The more and various shots the better but I'd love to start with a shallow DOF close-up of a face and a wide detailed shot.

Rent an URSA, shoot at 4K(UHD)/60P or 1080/120 (windowed) and get back to me with your thoughts...

Sharp, beautiful, nice color....just no comparison. You will question why the C300 Mark II was even made...now the C300 was just the best back in the day....

Ermmmm... I'll put my rational hat on...

I think it's plainly obvious by now that the C300 MKII is designed as an awesome single operator camera (if you like the form factor).

So not everything you pay for with the C300 MKII is going on the screen in terms of pure spec, there's a lot of features to help out the operator.

Canon have once again sacrificed high frame rates in order to add other features, but it still has ridiculously good HD and 4K at standard rates and a bunch of features the URSA and other cameras do not have.

Whether it's worth the extra money to you to go with the C300 MKIIs operator usability with great specs,
or go with another camera with less usability but great HFR is up to you and what you shoot.

To be honest if Canon had been more aggressive with the pricing then we wouldn't be having this debate. The fact that it's much more expensive than an FS7 or URSA is masking the fact that's it's a fantastic camera.

BTW this is a similar design philosophy to the C300: it's not the best in pure pixel spec, but it's good enough and a lot of pros loved the usability.

Phantom Flex 4k looks real nice. Tad spendy though.

I love Canon very much, but this pricing.....it's not 2012. I know the camera is amazing in its own way and I love the design and clean button layout and you just expect everything to work perfectly, but it's too much money for what it is. A few years ago, it was a steal, but just not now, not anymore.

I think the only people who have a right to comment and complain about the cost of a camera are the ones who purchased it. I personally own the new Mark II and I don't have a problem with the $16,000+ price tag because the camera does everything I want it to.

As an owner, I don't have a problem with the price tag either.

I'm just annoyed that after my first came dead on arrival with a sensor defect, the second has a joystick which sticks so now I'm sending the handle unit back for a replacement as well. Need to check if my C100 side handle will work on it in the meantime; I'd think it would.

Most of the HFR shots that I find in the web is shot at 1/120 shutter speed for 120fps. I guess because of lack of light people do it. However, that is not fair to test a camera on that basis. Do we shoot 1/24 shutter speed at 24fps and talk about sharpness? Look forward to some properly shot slow motion for comparison.

It's no secret that slow motion on the mk II has been handicapped(with the exception of HD/2K/60fps). Should you need anymore proof than the large amount of material already out there, I recommend a quick trip down your nearest rental house and pointing one at an ISO 12233 chart :) Overall still a great camera with intuitive features & beautiful image quality, but the 120fps mode is as laughable as it was on the c500.
