C300: C300 Rain Slicker/Dust Protection Experience

We all hate having to use them, which is why we need the least bulky, and hopefully easiest to put-on, camera protection.

Of the offerings from either Porta-Brace or CamRade that I found on B&H, only the CamRade has a customer review.

I own a lot of Porta Brace, never even heard of CamRade.

Anyone have a rain jacket they'd recommend?

Thanks,

Christopher

I have it for my long lens and not for camera. Whenever I am shooting, I carry with me a long green colour beach towel. When it rains, I just place the towel over the camera and at times over my head as well. What I don't like about the rain jackets is that they make noise and scare away wildlife.

As far as dust is concerned, I am virtually shooting in dustbowls ie in the wilderness areas in India. I don't use any cover while shooting and the camera is fine. When I am not shooting, I place a towel over it or place it inside the camera bag.

Indiawilds ,

Well I certainly have difficulty arguing with someone working with the camera in conditions one encounters in India. Yet, my subject matter rarely allows me to remain static. I'm often on the back of motorcycles, leaning from car windows or literally running after a subject.

But I do appreciate your input.

Regards,

Christopher

I use the camrade rain jacket. It's been quite effective. I shot during hurricane sandy with it (at battery park during the storm surge...very heavy rain) and had no problems with it. I would recommend it.

Thanks for this. I'm thinking of buying the Camrade. Does it have clear plastic windows on the sides so you can see the buttons. Can't tell from any of the online photos I have found.

Yes it does. I have it, haven't used it much but it covers everything while still keeping buttons and screens accessible and viewable.

You could always buy a roll of clear vinyl, maybe some zippers, maybe some velcro, some thread, and some of that seam sealer they use on tents and the link, and make one custom the way you want it to function, and it would be pretty cheap too, less than $50 for sure.
