C300 - Picture Profiles?

I am an in-camera type of guy. That is to say, I am not very interested in shooting flat and colorizing later. I'd prefer to test and develop ahead of time and bake in the image I want.

I was wondering, with all the interesting picture profiles that have been developed for the Canon DSLRs, can they be ported to the C300?

By the most 'interesting' PF, you mean, the flatest ones? Like the Cine Marvels or Technicolor? I wonder why would you want to use them on the C300 as its has the C Log profile which is so much more powerful than any of the former ones...

I'm not referring to the flat profiles, more like the opposite, where one can achieve a certain look in-camera, and not color the footage later.

Ken, the in camera options are going to leave for dead whatever what you see on your DSLR currently

Hey Jhoe! Do you think people are going to come together and develop the settings the way they have with other cameras? One thing I have enjoyed is the ability to take a certain look and tweak it. I am not so good at developing them from scratch myself.

yup, i was kind of disappointed the camera only came with with 2 looks dialed in. It's not the biggest deal, but not being much of an engineer myself, i've been messing around trying to build some, but im curious as to what other people are going to come up with, as I know for sure a fair amount of my clients are going to want a baked in look, and the EOS standard didnt look all that great to me.

I'll be porting over the CP's that I've created for the XF300 and XF100 series cameras to the C300. But the ones I've done aren't heavy "looks" as much as they are designed to give a pleasing look straight out of camera with no CC.

That sounds good and it's what I am referring to: nice in-camera styles that you don't have to color correct (Or not much). I am not necessarily referring to heavily stylized looks, though that would be interesting and helpful as well.

I know what you mean. A lot of times, I shoot and deliver knowing full-well that the footage is not going to go through much (if any) post coloring before broadcast - and for that, I want it to look it's best right off the bat. That's exactly what my CP's do. I should have my C300 within the next few weeks and will update the forum with the CP's once I've got them dialed in!

To me so far the Cine4 setting looked pretty much broadcast ready. Not as contrasty as EOS-Standard, but still pretty much done. I myself will probably shoot C-Log 90% of the time....

MY current editor isnt really used to working with video shot in s-log or c-log. Are there any tutorials I can point him to?

@NewYorkLion, not to much of a tutorial needed really, other then he needs to do the colorist job. Depends of how high you guys aim. Basic is just set black levels to where you want em (low), adjust highlights, mid and color tone aswell as some saturation levels and you are done. If he hasn't already figured out the scopes he maybe needs to do that. If you want the fancy stuff made he needs to figure out the secondaries with trackers and masks and what not (I am no colorist). From an editors point of view it isn't any difference really.

Thanks IRTV,

I'm assuming there's no way for me to bake in a LUt that can just be popped in there right?

Not sure if you can pop a single LUT. But most NLE can either copy/paste filters like "3 way color correct", or make one single setting on top of all clips (like Avid). So it easily done whatever route you choose. Depends on the time I have for post/grading vs the need of the extra latitude from using c-log. I could easily see myself using a ready profile in camera and skip grading/color correcting to save time in post for some projects.
