C300: C300 MKII incorrect black levels in Premiere Pro on 444 modes after firmware update

I posted this in the FCP gamma thread, but I think it's getting lost.

I can confirm that in Premiere Pro cc2017 the internal recordings of the C300 MKII are showing incorrect black levels in the RBG 444 modes, both 12 and 10 bit, at least with C-Log 1. This was not happening before the latest firmware update in December 2016.

Here's a screen recording of my scopes in Premiere. Black should be at 7.3 IRE.

Thanks for the info Bob. I'm still using 1.0.4.1 and shoot mostly with the 24-70 F2.8 II locked down on a tripod. 1.0.5.1 added IS fixes (I see could be useful for the 24-105 etc.), 1.0.6.1 added peripheral illumination correction for the 24-105 (could use that perhaps) and a lot of other changes, including this:

10. Metadata related to the XF-AVC range has been corrected.
- The range of Canon Log/Log2/Log3 has been corrected to full range.

Did Canon introduce a bug, or were the NLEs working around a prior bug, and now that Canon (actually) corrected it, their work-around is now causing a bug? Or are the NLEs not interpreting the files correctly?

Canon's wording makes it seem they changed the metadata for all the internal recording modes. So I wonder why it's only happening in the RGB 444 modes.

RGB colors are mostly full range. (Not just Canon, but everywhere) 422 are often either full range or legal range, and therefore more subject to misinterpretations.

My bet is on NLEs using a workaround that is no longer needed. But who knows...

Well that's definitely not true. RGB can be full range or legal range. You can say full range is a lot more common for RGB.
