C300: C300 mk2 and Avid

Hi all!

Been reading here for a while, but never posted. Until now! :)

Recently bought a C300 mk2 and trying to get my head around workflow issues. Any of you using it with Avid?
10 bit 422 works fine in sync speed, but off speed (50-100fps) can´t load in Avid. Works like a charm in Premier, but i am more fond of Avid unfortunently.

The same with 12 bit 444 RGB files. Is Premiere the only NLE of the two that can handle it?

Hope someone can fill in some blanks here for me! :)

Cheers!

Jorgen,

Are you using the Canon plugin? I haven't had a problem with 12 Bit RGB in Avid - can't speak to the offspeed though.

If you are refering to the Canon AMA plugin, yes, if there is another Canon plugin, no.
And if offspeed is a bad term, i'm talking about slow-motion. Both crop and full sensor.

But really good to hear that 12bit RGB should work! :)

Yeah the AMA was what I was referring to - I've seen people bring in just the MXF files without it.

Offspeed is a fine term - but in my mind there shouldn't really be any problem, because the file is still a 24fps or 29fps base - the Avid shouldn't even know that it's really 120frames being played back at 24...

Are you Avid 8.4 or 8.5?

I'll check what settings I used when I did it. Mixed C300ii and FS7, both with a lot of slo-mo in avid with no problems.

Edit -> Avid 8.4.5

No difference between the 120fps and regular clips, all import the same on my end. When I link in the files, I can't leave the drop-down on "auto detect Plug-in", I have to choose " MXF (*.MXF) ", otherwise it doesn't link in and tells me files were skipped.

Try downloading and installing Canon XF Plugin 64 for Avid Media Access 3.1 [Mac OS X] here:
https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/...ark-ii/eos-c300-mark-ii#drivers_downloads_tab

I've noticed Avid doesn't auto-apply any LUTs as it does when it recognizes CineEI clips out of my FS7

See if that works!

Thanks guys!! There seems to be a bug in the latest Avid, so that you have to link to the folder above the "Contents" folder.
Works like a charm now! What a beautiful camera! :)

Bighaug,

Good to hear you worked that out - that is how all the Canon Plugins work, it wants to see the full structure because it does read metadata within the folder as well.

I thought if you didn't click that folder the whole thing just error-ed, interesting that it seems to be selective in what it likes...

Yeah i know, super confusing! On earlier versions of Avid you could link to the Contents folder, and it would get the whole folder structure, but now it doesn't. Wierd!
