C300: C300 (MarkII) monitoring with older Panasonic monitors?

I believe it works if you don't go into the slow motion modes. If you do go into the slow motion modes, it doesn't work, but if I recall we got it working by looping through a SmallHd502 and then out to the Panasonic (we were filming at 48 fps).

Check your SDI Leveling (Picture/Terminal Setups > 3G-SDI Mapping), some displays like Level A over B at higher frame rates. Interesting that it only works at 60P....

I've had this issue with my MarkII and the Odyssey in several frame rates. Also, some older monitors do not support Psf, progressive segmented frames. I don't fully understand it, but it is some magic that newer cameras use to pump out the HDSDI signal. I had to buy new monitors to talk with the MarkII... which I took as a sign that my old monitors were getting tired, anyways.

I tested it a bit more but still don't fully understand so hoepfully soemone will chime in to shine some light.
I connected the C300 Mark II to two monitors: older Panasonic BT-LH1710W and SmallHD DP7 (that takes both HDMI or SDI) and using "Normal Operations" set the frame rate to the following:
Panasonic (via SDI):
59p - NO
59i - yes
29p - yes
23p - yes

SmallHD (via SDI):
59p - NO
59i - yes
29p - yes
23p - yes

SmallHD (via HDMI):
59p - yes
59i - yes
29p - NO
24p - NO

So obviously even though the monitor (SmallHD) can show 59p signal (via HDMI) the camera doesn't feed it through SDI port.

Question 1 : If i were to film mixture of 23p and 59p (for slow mo effect) would i set Normal Operations to 23p (thus i can only monitor via SDI) and then use "slow&fast" function for 59p slow mo effect?
Question 2 : My wireless monitoring depends on Radian CMR system with HDMI input/output. As HDMI output is so limiting on this camera should i just get SDI to HDMI converter and use SDI out from the camera?

Panasonic (via SDI):
59p - NO
59i - yes
29p - yes
23p - yes

SmallHD (via SDI):
59p - NO
59i - yes
29p - yes
23p - yes

SmallHD (via HDMI):
59p - yes
59i - yes
29p - NO
24p - NO

If I recall correctly, the SmallHD can only accept 60P over HDMI and not SDI, which is why you got those varying results. I know for certain the Mark II can send 60P over SDI as that's how I use it with my TV Logic. Some cameras will send out a PsF signal, but to my knowledge the C300 Mark II does not and it only sends pure progressive now (different than earlier Cinema EOS models).

The BT-LH1700W only supports 1080p60 over it's component input (strange I know). But not over SDI, which also explains your above results.

Looping through a device like the Odyssey 7Q, which supports a 60P SDI input, it can then output the signal in PsF over it's SDI out (a menu option). And apparently from Eric Collins' note the SmallHD does the same thing, takes that 60P signal in via HDMI and can send a PsF'ed version of it out over SDI, presumably since the SmallHD's SDI is not capable of 60P.

On top of all of that, if you have a display that is capable of seeing 60P over SDI but is not seeing your signal, then that is when you change the 3G-SDI Mapping in the camera to Level A. This happens on the Zacuto Gratical for example.

I think that explains it all...hahah a strange world we live in for sure.

My main concern is that my wireless is not working (based on HDMI). I presume because MarkII doesn't output PsF and only, as you say, the pure progressive. I wonder if SDI-to-HDMI converter would rectify it.

Hmm, that is strange. I haven't worked with that system but their website says it supports 1080 60P, so it should work over HDMI and HDSDI...

Sending SDI through an HDMI converter wont do anything unless it could also do the PsF translation.

My system DOES work when i send the 59i signal (obviously via HDMI) to my HDMI monitor, so my reasoning is to converts whatever is coming out of SDI into 59i HDMI signal. (Isn't 59i HDMI's standard?)

In general, I found the older production models (Pany 1700, TV Logic 46") will only take 60i, not 60P.....

That's my point. I wonder if there is a way to convert the signal sent from the camera to some kind of 59i signal so that it works with older monitors.

You could always get something like a Decimator MD-DUCC or similar that is an up/down/cross-converter. It basically takes anything IN and converts it to whatever you want/need going OUT. I carry one in the back of my truck all the time and have it set to output 720/60P, because I have a network client that is 720 and sometimes they have issues taking in anything besides 720 during feeds. That way if we're shooting 1080/24(23.98)(Sony) for a feature and they want it fed in to use some of it, we can.

For those interested, the solution is to use a cross-converter (such as MD-CROSS V2). You connect it to SDI output of the camera and have it convert the frame rate to 60i.
