C300: C300 Mark2 - High level of noise

Keep an eye on the waveform. When the waveform is very close to as well as touches 0 you will have lot of noise. In photo of screen posted the black coat/sweater is virtually without details in many places, so not sure why there won't be noise.

Slow motion greater than 50/60 fps doesn't have AF. So for sharpness I would not use those shots to check.

The canon rep sounds clueless.

I dont use the camera - I use an FS7 which many suggest is noisy but I always add noise to my footage!

I would suggest the the OP that there are two basic aquisition methods.. 'in camera' or 'for post'

Any wide DR/Log settings are for 'in post'. If you are expecting a log look to work 'in camera' it is not going to happen.

The idea with these wide/log settings is that some form of look or applied to the footage.

Now the nature of that look will hugely affect the noise situation - a dark look will reduce noise by 'crushing' the shadows.

Now if you use a dark, noise free look you will need to shoot wider open to keep your shadow details from being crushed.

It is important therefore to carry out some controlled testing to find what, if anything, works for you.

Set a scene and shoot it at many Tstops, move all of those shots into post, apply a lut/look to them and then lighten or darkn the final shot to taste.

Only with a rigourous approach to testing will you find if the camera is good or not.

Beyond the noise matter, what's all about the soft picture anyway... We did some side by side testing with another Mark2 (We didn't used WDR gamma) and there are noticeable difference in quality. The sharpness had to be pushed up to 15 to get a sharp image. I've just done another test front of the CPS director in Paris and they finally seem to be taking me and the problem more seriously...

Firstly some footage (log) will not have sharpening in camera and sharpening should be applied in post.

If, however, your camera is not performing the same as others of the same model then it sounds to be broken and should be replaced :)

well if u feel there is a problem i would suggest to keep fighting..... its possible there is an issue with the sensor or cam in general....... grab another C300II and see if its any different... other then that with out footage examples or links to a fool frame grabs i dont think anyone of us will be able to help u out ..... and / or agree with u that its a problem...

Slow Motion higher then 60fps sucked on just every clip i saw online......

to me all your footage looks a little underexposed....

as for softness i hope u use an appropriate shatter speed... if so and if lens is sharp ... i never had problems with sharpness with my c300.... and never seen sharpness issues at c300 ii posted online.... seems strange to me...

I have received a call from Canon... The camera is "officially defective" and will be exchange it.
Good to hear....the only issues we are experiencing/hearing about are related to Log2 (use 400ISO).....but in original log, very clean with no noise up to 6400 ISO. As for WDR, it has been known to be a bit noisy (on C100 MK I & MK II) especially in the higher ISOs.
