Hey everyone ,
New to the C300 here. Just picked up one used for decent price (not the dualAF), but wondering if I made a mistake...... turn camera on and with 2 min the fans are very loud. I hit record, and it's nearly silent. Some research online only talks about the newest firm Version 1.1.4.1.00 - having the ability to turn "on" or "automatic". That's it? Also the word "FAN" is displayed on lcd screen.....I found the menu setting to turn that off - but I'm wondering if this fan noise is normal?

Again, it's super quite when I hit record. Push stop and the fans immediately kick in. Loud enough to be a distraction. I hit the intakes with the air can - but still have the same issue. the fan is set to automatic.

Hopefully this is normal???? What s been your experience, with this firmware update? I like ISO 80,000 - ☺️wow..... But not sure if the fan suppose to behave like that when not shooting?

many thanks to anyone who replies

Fan noise is normal, but I wouldn't call it loud. I can barely hear it on my C300 when I put my head next to the viewfinder. When I pull out the viewfinder it is more audible, but still not loud. The fan stops as soon as I press record, and I've never noticed it turning back on while recording. When set to automatic the fan will run as long as the camera is not recording. When set to on it will stay on even after pressing record.

Thanks for the quick response. Yeah - I hear the fans from 6 feet away when not recording. Hit record, and it's silent. Wish there was a way to control the fan speed. I'm going to give Canon a call see what they say

This is a new way they make fans work. Sony, Red cams do that as well. Not recording - Fan ON and cooling cam, Strart recording - FAN OFF, silent. Nothing wrong with that.

Hi, just an update. What telcam said was right in.

I quickly brought cam to Canon tech office in NJ..... They were so nice and very knowledgable. The tech assured me the fan noise I was hearing was within normal range, (although on louder side,) but nothing to worry about as they all sound similar when not recording. phewwww - thought I bought a lemon - and you know that nail biting feelin that something is wrong with yr expensive purchase......but all good. cheers

Long back in 2012, I had seen a Canon demo camera which had a bit higher fan noise. In my own camera I don't even notice it.
