C300: c300 Mark II Proxy Workflow

So, I've edited 6k Red footage on my laptop without a problem (at 1/2 resolution), but apparently it can't handle 4k Canon footage. Weird, but whatever, I'll go the proxy route.

I have two questions I'm hoping someone can help me with:

1. Having not used proxies before, my thinking was to edit the footage, unlink the proxies, link the source footage, and voila. Easy, right? No, because Premiere tries to be smart and finds the original files in a different folder than the one I told it to search. Ok, so I can just trick Premiere by putting the proxies in a totally different place. That worked, but because the proxy files have the *._P addition, that means they all have to be linked by hand. What's the solution?

2. Best way to make proxy files if I didn't make them in camera?

Unrelated question, what LUT are you guys using? I've found AlexaV3_k1S1_LogC2Video_Rec709_EE to be pretty good, but every now and again the hues get a bit wonky, and some browns shifted to purple. Also, when I export to h.264, I'm getting some color shift which is annoying because the original source just looks so damned good.

Thanks in advance!! Amazing c300 Mark II Yosemite footage coming soon. This camera is a beast, and while it's very familiar to me, it's also taking some getting used to, especially that finicky clog2. The still frames look amazing but it gets pretty noisy in low or even average light.

I guess you could state what kinda of laptop and power you have. That would help in determining your problem.

Upgrading my computer a week after I bought a c300 Mark II isn't in the cards, so it's sort of a moot point. For what it's worth, I have a 15" Retina MPB, 2.3 Ghz Core i7, 16GB Ram, NVIDIA Gefore GT 750M 2048 MB.

Also, I just tried bringing my MXF's directly into Encoder to make proxies. Super weird... it took some and not others, even with the same frame rate/resolution.
*Edit* - Whoops... apparently still had Encoder CC 2014 on my system. Newest media encoder took all the MXF's.

It's not a moot point if you are looking for help on your current computer. In your first post you failed to mention the hardware and software that you are trying to edit with. You don't even state what type of hard drive array you are editing with. All I can say is that I edit XC10 4k (not a whole lot different than C300II files) on my Macbook and it cuts like butter. Using FCPX, on a TB2 Raid.

Agree with dusty. FCPX is fast. I use my 17 inch macbook pro early 2012 model to cut 4k C300 Mark II footage with FCPX. Its cool. My Macbook Pro has 16gb ram.

You may try FCPX and see if the speed difference matters to you.

Agreed, Final Cut Pro X is ultra fast compared to Premiere. When working to a tight deadline X is a lifesaver. Love how easy multi cam footage is to edit.
