C300: C300 Mark II - Noise Reduction Artefacts / Gradient Bending / Firmware Issue

Don't get discouraged! The grass is always greener elsewhere. I was just discussing this with someone else who owns another brand and there are issues with every camera. Apparently the Varicam LT is having IR issues, I've seen the FS7 pixelate more sunsets than I care to recount and we had a black magic decide to shut down mid record last week.

I've used the internal recording for over a hundred shoots with no issues and just recently started using the O7Q more and more. I'd put that O7Q image up against anything on the market. Keep nagging your Canon contacts and hope that the guys in Japan get a fix asap.

Have they fixed the issue or just given us the option to turn it off?

Hmmmm, maybe I'm not picky enough, I felt like having the option to turn it off was fixing it.

I guess, in reality it would be ideal for them to figure out a noise reduction algorithm that doesn't cause these artifacts, but that seems like it could take a while. In the mean time, it's good to see them be so responsive about implementing a quick fix like this, even if it isn't the ideal final solution.

Based upon the artifact images I have seen posted here and elsewhere, this fix was deparately needed and they responded as soon as it became a trending topic of discussion. I agree, it would be nice to re-do the NR algorithm implementation, I would expect artifact free NR from a $12,000.00 camera but at least being able to turn it off instantly fixes the issue. Many C300 MKII users are using LUTs and implementing nicely crafted grades so handling NR in post is a better option for those users. For those of us who have to shoot footage that is immediately posted on the web, an artifact free NR function would be nice.

Great thing they have fixed this with the option of turning it of! Now i just hope they are working on a fix for the purple/magenta horizontal stripes in high contrast images. That is driving me crazy.
