C300: C300 Mark II 4k Codec Question

I'm considering a C300 II, however there are times the 4k codec might be a bit memory-heavy for certain projects. Wanting to remain in 4k, does anyone know if Canon offers (or will offer) something similar to Sony's XAVC-L, for the c300 II. Are there any other options to record with a less robust 4k codec? While I realize a downgrade is not ideal, having that option for certain projects, while maintaining 4k would help with this decision.

Thoughts? Thanks so much,

I'm editing with xf 4K on an iMac no problem -
premiere pro cc & fcpx will generate proxy allowing you to toggle back & forth
either way (straight 4K or proxy) it's really not a big deal anymore

Thanks for that...the concern is not editing...rather, storage for longer term/low budget projects. I'm trying to increase the hours of footage per TB in 4k, without loosing a terrible amount of quality. Any alternative you know of?

You could convert it in post to a more compressed codec and delete the original files.

I don't know of external recorders that will record more compressed 4K. I think ProRes 4K is around the same data rate.

It is one of the downsides of the C300 Mark II for events shooters like myself. Thus one reason I rarely shoot in 4k for event work. I was disappointed when it was announced that it didn't have a more compressed 4K option.

I suspect the C100 Mark III/C200 will have a compressed 4K option, but may be a year or so before it comes out.
