C300: C300 Mark 2 Missing 3/8 Hex Screws. Handle Doesn't Mount.

I grabbed a C300 Mark 2 from texas media systems and it got delivered today. It came with a cheese plate that covers the top hotshoe and takes 3 1/4 hex screws to lock it into position. Then the hands have grooves to seat it on the top of that cheese plate. There isn't any 3/8 screws to bolt the handle to the plate. Has anyone had this issue? It doesn't even specify in the book that there are even 3/8 screws supposed to be included. This seems to be a mistake by canon.

There should be a whole bag of those screws with plenty of spares. If you're missing parts, contact Texas Media Systems and I'm sure they'll rectify the situation.

Though, the stock handle isn't good, so I'd look into getting a third party handle anyway. I use the Zacuto handle.

In the meantime, you can use gaff tape to attach the handle. Or go to Home Depot and get some screws.

Everyone who says the top handle is bad is on drugs. I owned the mark I and that could be considered bad. The mark two is perfect. It's threaded perfectly and had no flex.

It's perfectly solid, but places the monitor unit too hight and too far forward, and offers no customization when you have different lens sizes/weights. Something that can adjust up/down forward/back is needed to operate efficiently.

Movcam top handle has 15mm rods options going forward/back and perpendicular to the camera. I used a wooden camera FS7 evf relocator and a cold shoes clamp to lock the monitor piece in place. This setup brings sets the lcd module lower than the actual handle, lowering the center of gravity. I can also pitch the monitor up or down and slide it closer to the body of the camera to compensate for various lens weights.

I would also recommend taking the mic holder off too. It gets in the way and again puts too much weight in front. I use a second cold shoe clamp and small 15mm rod on the dumb side and mount a rode shock mount (no pictured).

This reflects my experience as well, albeit said experience is preliminary as I haven't had the Mark ii very long. It's less some kind of dichotomous conflict of 'good vs bad' than a matter of form, function, and personal preference.

The mark i handle on the other hand...sheesh...DP friend was carrying his c300 by the handle and the thing literally snapped off. As fortune would have it, he had his other hand on the bottom lip and caught the camera...otherwise...

Texas Media Systems will sort you out. Just call them. That would have been my first step.
