C300 dust

I found a spot in the C300 in the C300 footage. When I use the LCD, I can see the spot as well. I tried to use all the ND (1, 2 and 3 stops) as well as without engaging the ND. The result is the same. I guess it would be in the internal clear filter. Unfortunately, I am in the field shooting in a forest and can't do much. I just came out to town for couple of days before shooting again.

Is there a way to deal with the spot in post? My editing skills are rudimentary as I am dabbling in FCP X. Yet to properly install the FCP X plugin, so can't cut footage and give a link here. Any one else has such a problem? It is prominent in the waterfall stuff that I was shooting. It gets hidden when I am shooting crocodiles. There are some 20000 ISO stuff in darkness and torch light combination and naturally the spot is not visible. However on other footage one can easily see it. This camera is bloody good. Just this spot is making me lose my sleep. Can it be dealt in post?

Just had this issue with our C300 PL. To get through the day's shots, I had to stop down to T5.6 to help minimize the dust spec, but it was still visible. I lost time and money pulling the camera out of rental inventory and paying Canon $359 plus shipping both ways to clean the camera. Turns out they replaced the ND filter assembly, so don't know if this was an issue during manufacture or after delivery. Either way it shouldn't have happened and I shouldn't have had to pay Canon for the repair. Sorry you have to deal with this as well. I have found a few similar stories on the forums and talking to other rental houses.

Thanks for your response. I am a wildlife filmmaker and when you are filming in India's wilds, dust is an integral component. I am very careful in preventing dust getting into the sensor and take utmost care in changing lenses. However, dust on the filter is a new phenomenon to me. I will now see if my editor can safely remove the dust and make the footage usable. Unfortunately my internet connectivity here is pretty poor and I can't send the files. Were you able to use your footage with dust?

Yes, if I didn't close down the iris below T5.6 or shoot a white flat field. Problem was the client wanted the main head shot in a long hospital corridor to be shot at T8.0 but the spec was too obvious. I'll be watching closely to see if this issue reoccurs. My C300 PL is used primarily for corporate projects, mainly interiors, so not exactly extreme conditions.

Why the hell are people required to pay for this? The camera is less than a year old and the problem is not caused by the enduser? I don't mean to fuel the fire but this is lame!

Since not many has posted on this topic, I guess others are not affected?

Here is a short where the dust is clearly visible. I have cut this using a 17 inch Macbook Pro and FCPX in the field. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRQjcEzoM0Q

I had to get the camera cleaned and again back in field. I hope the dust problem doesn't come back.
