I am long overdue for a camera upgrade from my 7D (not the Mark II, the original one from 2009), and the more research I do, the more it looks like one of Canon’s cinema cameras is what I’m looking for. Spec-wise, the new C300 Mk III is my favorite. However, besides the 120 fps capabilities and DGO sensor, the only big difference between the C300 Mk III and the C200 is the addition of the 10-bit XF-AVC codec. With the C200 now only costing $5,500, and as someone who shoots mostly event coverage, indie narratives, and occasional commercials but never for professional broadcast companies as of yet, I'm having trouble deciding if it's actually worth spending an additional $5,500, exactly twice as much, just for the addition of the 10-bit codec. I've seen two schools of thought which state either that 10-bit is only necessary for professional broadcast and all web stuff or projects for individual clients should be done with 8-bit, or that 8-bit is worthless and everyone needs to start shooting 10-bit at minimum for everything. This is a dilemma that been bothering me for a while now. Could anyone possibly weigh in on this? As far as budget goes, I'm really just wanting whatever is going to be the best value and investment (and by investment I don't mean retain monetary value as much as serving me best for the longest amount of time without needing to upgrade).
