Hi
Im getting no audio (on the monitor) when taking SDI from my C200 so atomos shogun flame.

With HDMI I get audio.

Any concepts if this is a menu snafu (monitor or camera) or a limitation of SDI?

Thanks

Atomos is finicky try changing frame rate and resolution on the camera and its output for example 1080 60p. Make sure the Atomos audio isn’t set to the analog audio jack.

this is a good thought!

I cant change the frame rate as that is defined by the project (?)

no idea how to check the input. but it worked straight off with HDMI.
also Im getting no audio with ym SDI Feelweird monitor

Methink its a Canon special facility.

Canon customer service seems like the most direct way to get answers. I’d use hdmi if that works.
Not in the UK canon not even heard of the C200 .. although they did mend the ND motor.

I’d use hdmi if that works.

Its not ideal. Im lugging a 'proper' camera because I want to offer a proper service to the director and that is SDI with audio to me - not hard its has been on cams since the 90s!

The HDMI might be my 'operator monitor' im mulling that vs the onboard to maybe get a few more lines on my vision.

Yes there is cam->hdmi monitor ->hdmi (or even SDI out?) to director. Worth a fiddle.

It's been too long for me with either but here's some random troubleshooting:
- Check which audio channels you're seeing on the Atomos in the menu or by clicking the bars/levels (the SDI audio might be recording to 3 and 4 but you are monitoring 1 and 2 which are not active)
- Disconnect anything from the C200's HDMI and then test
- Check if there is a setting in the C200 menu that lets you choose HD-SDI or 3G-SDI and then test
- Change recording resolutions inside the C200 (test HD in 24p and 60p)
- Check SDI resolution output in the C200 menu and test 1080p and 2K
- Play around with the physical audio switches on C200
- Check the following page in the manual to see if your SDI is passing audio through

Thanks for this.. it is a useful article as I have use the 'analogue' mics to record with this device so understanding the routing is super helpful.

Let me recap a couple of things..

1) when using HDMI (c200->atomos) the audio 'just works' (with a delay that affects monitoring but not recording or playback)

2) SDI from the canon C200 has no audio on..
-Atomos
-two different Feelworld monitors
-redbyte decimator c200->sdi->decimator->hdmi-atomos
(the decimator - as old as Charles Papert - needs 'type A' to function in the C200 menu)

Im investigating the analogue audio out on the decimator.

Frankly I think the C200 is not functional, was probably never tested in the factory and all the losers on youtube who suggest they are reviewers missed this quirk.

MM. Are you saying following the procedure under assignable button #9 "AUDIO STATUS" at 4:54, page 1/1 and 6:00 page 1/2 in the following video you can't assign your audio to the SDI output? That is odd?

To my knowledge clicking input status just shows a 'report'

new on me is that 'status' this has two pages.

The second page shows that HDMI and SDI have channels of audio embedded

Those status pages dont allow any edits to my knowledge.

Pressing 'set' the hops one from status into the audio menu.

This audio menu has various options for routing the mics assisgning the HF to listen to different stuff et al. but, to my knowledge, doesnt have any option for choosing where sound goes out.

So..

Status Page Two says SDI has four audio tracks, (and TWO on HDMI)

With SDI my Atomos and Feelwierd monitors and Redbyte decimator dont 'hear' that audio if it is there.

SDI can be type A or B and P or PSF - I think ive tried all combinations.

HDMI 'just works' subject to understanding the analogue input option on the Atomos.

Ive not found a place where one can choose what audio is going out through HDMI or SDI from the camera.

The idea would be to get sond and audio to the atomos for the director to hear, we could also record that and present audio synched playback on set without digging in the C200 media page which is slow.

I guess if all fails at getting audio on your SDI output I guess you could always use one of BM's Micro Converter HDMI to SDI 12G units. Small, light and very robust. I've not had it refuse any HDMI signal I've thrown at it, and all have successfully been converted to SDI with embedded audio at whatever resolution the incoming HDMI was/is.

The reason I'm constantly using one is that one of my pet peeves with the FX6 is only one SDI out. I nearly always need two when in the studio. Sometimes three. One for studio monitor, one for the Atomos and one for live to air switching in the control room.
