C100: C100 with telephoto lenses

Hi.
I have to attach a telephoto lens to my C100.
Do you recommend me to attach the lens to the plate/tripod head (as I do when I shoot stills with my other cameras) instead of the attaching the camera to the tripod head, as one normally does with shorter and lighter lenses? I obviously want to avoid damages to the camera ring due to the lens weight.
Thank you.

I mount a 70-200 F4 L without extra support but I guess it depends on the size/length/weight of the lens in question. What are you proposing?

I will mount a 70-200 mm F2.8, possibly with a 1.4x converter. I think I will attach the lens rather than the camera body to the tripod. Never thought of an extra support, which seems excessive in this case :)

I've used mine many times this way, without the tripod collar. It seems to hold up fine, just a little front heavy when tilting or panning making the camera want to settle in just a little lower than average ( this is with a 501HDV head )

Hi.
I don't understand: do you mean that you attached the camera body or the lens to the tripod?
Like I said, my concern is more for eventual damages to the camera ring than for a strange balance.
Thanks.

Personally, i would use a basic 15mm rig with a lens support bracket for total peace of mind, shouldn't add too much weight/size.
