C100: C100 vs. XF100

Can anyone tell me the main difference between these two cameras? What are the pros and cons of both? Which would you choose?

I have both. C100 has far better image quality. It's large chipped and a complete low light monster. Suited for more cinema shooting with shallow depth of field. Shoots AVCHD codec but I find it quite roust. The XF100 is a miniature 1/3in single chip camera with a 10x zoom lens. Shoots Canons high quality XF codec to CF cards and holds up very well. Not a super lowlight camera by all means. It's very compact with big features. Great for run and gun shooting, travel, and keeping a very low profile (not drawing attention).

If I had to buy today I would take the C100 because it's just a wonderful camera.

The real question is, what do you plan on shooting?

I'm looking for a replacement for my XH A1.

I mostly shoot shorts, an event or two, where I go around, shooting what pops up, if you know what I mean. Right now, I'm very tempted by the C100, due to the fact, that I have several great L-lenses to use with it(24-70/2.8, 70-200/2.8, 100/2.8 IS, 300/2.8 IS), and I think, that I will find it easy to use, since I'm very familiar with the DSLR'ish design(I own a 1D Mark III).

But, the XF100 is pretty much cheaper, and I just want to know, if the C100 is worth the extra money :)

imagine a camera that is great, and you've just imagined the c100.

but then again if you frequently shooting things that need ENG style lens control, than it actually may be a poor choice for you

Well, I do mostly shoot planned shorts, and I think that I will be able to use the C100 in other cases. As you may see in my posts, I am really close to choosing the C100, I just need that small, final kick ;)

The C100 is a better all round performer. You have lenses that will work with it out of the box. It's a DSLR on steroids in terms of image quality and features. I love the camera. Everyone who sees the footage from it is very impressed.

Consider yourself kicked.

Thanks ;) Now I just have to find that extra money, and sell my XH A1 ;)

I still have my XHA1. I keep it around just in case I need to convert HDV tapes.

With the ISO so clean on the C100 you don't have to shoot wide open. This will help keep things in focus for less planned shots.

I don't think I've ever seen a post comparing two cameras of this nature. I love my XF100. It's a great camera, the best i've ever owned or used - but I'm just a glorified hobbyist and can't justify spending more on a camera unless I win the lottery or get an inheritance. But, dude, you're comparing a $2500 camera with a $5500 one. If you can swing the $5500 it's a no-brainer, especially with the bagful of L lenses you have. And at the end of the month I think it goes up to $6500. Do it!

Our team owned them both. The XF100 is a superior handicam with good color gradients, and is easy for use. The C100s have great color gradients, more resolution, and do not have as many auto functions. which s better? Sold the xf100 the moment we saw the C100 footage.

I know it's a bit odd comparison, but I can't afford the C100 right now, and just wanted to know, if it was worth the extra money over the XF100. As I might have thought, this seems to be the case.

The price at $5500 vs $6500 is no problem, since I live in Denmark, and we didn't get the instant discount. Also, I am hoping to find one used on eBay or maybe in here. But I know it's rarely for sale :)

Hi all!

I have now made quite another decision. I thought, that $6500 is quite a lot of money for a video camera, when I mostly do stills, so therefore I have decided to buy a Canon 1Dx instead, since that will be a nice replacement for my 1D III, and still capable of shooting stunning video :)
