C100 rig with ninja

Anyone have thoughts how a c100/Ninja rig would work for run and gun? Seems like a great doc solution for 1/2 the price (or less) than c300. Just not quite as simple and elegant as the c300. Thoughts?

Looking forward to seeing thoughts on this as well. Considering using a pair of C100s w/ Ninjas for a reality show.

Yes...that seems the easiest off the top of my head.
And anyone hear any updates about Ninja and Canon working together so Ninja will automatically start recording with the camera?

C100 + Ninja2 recorder will start recording picture (and sound) when you press the record button on the C100 and stop like-wise. No need to separately hit record etc. on the Ninja2. Timecode on Ninja2 is same as C100 as outlined at about 3m 30s onwards in the video.

The only thing I don't like about the C100 + Ninja setup is that you are adding another extra component. That adds bulk, power requirements, a cruddy hdmi cable, and another device that could fail while in the field. I'm more inclined to buy a c300 and not worry about any of those problems.

What about Ninja on your body via a belt or pouch and a cable between it and the camera? That keeps the camera lightweight. Not a rig solution but will work with rig. Got to have long enough cable and be careful. Anyone ever tried this?

Eliminating this inconvenience will cost quit a bit. The price difference between the c100 + ninja is about 7500. The C300 is about double that.

in that case - nano flash - probably the smallest and lightest solution can be powered with the same battery as your cam .... talking about swift batteries

Does anyone know how the C100's Screen and the Ninja's screen compare? Even though the C300 (just for comparison) is nice for handheld, personally I prefer adding a short shoulder stock to add contact, when you NOT feel comfortable using the EVF. And for that the Ninja could be put via noga arm over the c100 lcd, maybe get a dedicated loupe... Just thinking out loud.

When I had the C100 in my hand, the LCD appeared to be the same as on the C300.......

You have done nothing but change the brand of the recorder. You still have a box+hdmi cable+power

no u r not correct:
1. u dont need the separate power for nano as it can go out of swift battery inside camcorder - so less weight right away
2. nano is smaller and weight less - so again less weights.
3. CF cards weight less then HDD - so again less weights....

to me all that better for handheld! am i wrong?

but the price is higher! so again less of weight (monies in your pocket):cheesy:

Buddy,

Let's do the simple math again.

You have:

1- Nano Flash (an extra box that sits on top of your camera or wherever you place it)

1- HDMI cable (this is an extra cable running from your camera to the nano flash)

1- Swit battery (You now have an extra cable running from your battery compartment to the nano flash)

1- CF Card (you are now responsible for carrying around extra media)

OR

I buy a C300 and I just worry about pushing the record button. I personally am tired of the extra crap I have to plug into a Camera to make it do what I want.

And you're not alone in this. And for it we pay a premium.
It's part of Canon's business model.

From our (the consumer's) business model it's a simple decision between, maybe $300 a month in lease costs.

Unless you have a magic C300 that doesn't need media its a non issue.

What are you talking about? The nano flash requires a cf card to record to. I can pick up a body only c300, pop a card in, record in camera 4:2:2 50mbps, hand that card off to my editor, finalize the film, win at Sundance, all before you've even started to build your c100 + nano rig.

Yes the nanoflash requires a CF card. So does the C300 so having to carry around CF media (the part I quoted) isn't different between the two cams.

Except the C100 records onboard to SD cards. Any professional I know using an external recorder would always record to the camera as well. So now you have two different types of media.

Wow. That's one hell of a camera. Did it come with pixie dust?
