C100: C100 overpriced?

echem.... bob barker rules based on practicals as well, seeing as it was your decision whether to use them or not to use them :)

and ballparking the number of lights is about as simple as counting the shadow angles and such.
Sure, using practical, but I'm shooting strobe. On the big street scene the house bulbs lit the inside wit a burn in. Outside is 4 strobe lights that I use to layer over each other. Paint it together in PS. The top floor of the street scene though is 1 flash with dual 443 straw as there were no practicals up there. The street lights did not light the building one bit as they are mercury vapor. The lit grass is one light as I walk down the sidewalk taking 4 or 5 shots.

I have probably 15 strobe heads and 6 power packs getting really lonely in storage about now. About $20,000 worth of lighting just collecting dust.

Now back to C100 overpriced. I think once a person uses it and sees how much a joy the camera is to work with the price is quickly forgotten. The image is just pleasant. The AVCHD holds up very well. I've shot lots of slo mo with 60i and frankly it looks just fine. With Canons reliability I think the price is just fine and justified.

Last one...
Shot with 3 strobes. Moved around and blended. All insides are 1 strobe were I go room to room with 443 straw. Took me 20 minutes to shoot this while out of town and trying to get home. The budget didn't award them a twilight scene and I wanted to be home at a decent hour of 2 am...

dusty, got an online sample of the slow motion you've shot with your c? never even bothered to test with mine
I'm shooting a short with my famous celeb buddy the next two days. I'll see if we use some 60i slo mo and post that. It does work. It's obviously not 1080/60p but I feel its better than 720/60p.

And yes Gchuck, strobe is hard to beat. A tiny $200 monolight can do great things.

NO NO NO! HDR BAD! God I hate HDR.

My camera is profiled and all of my lights are color balanced together. That way when I shoot it's a 1 click preset in lightroom, some minor adjustments, then into PS for blending and retouch, back to lightroom for final color, out to client.

So a $20 battery slave flash SVPG250S.jpg is filtered to balance with a $350 2400w/s head 202104.jpg, to a $25 light I put in a ceiling recessed light fixture SV45I.JPG to a $200 moonlight 541984.jpg (which I mostly use these monos) But I just picked up some Paul C. Buff Einsteins which are just awesome moonlights.

All of which are balanced to within 25 kelvin of each other.

No HDR. All lighting, exposure, and color treatment. I use strobe to control my scene. I have lots of tungsten but strobe is my weapon of choice.

ANd that big ass street scene above (both of them)... None of my lights were plugged into a wall outlet. Everything is ran off of portable batteries.

yea one of the reasons i settled on this was i found an obscure post on some dark forum in the webwilderness where a fella tested the color shifts and it performed very well. haven't done my own testing to confirm, but in brief messing around noticed nothing noticeable. but anyways, a bit off topic by this point.

back on topic: no, the c100 isn't overpriced.

the end

The C100 is not overpriced, just underspec'd. The end. ;)
