C100: C100 noisy?

Hi,

I just got my C100 in today. I'll primarily be using it for filming green screens, so I'd like a clean image. I just shot a quick test shot and it appeared to have a lot more noise than i had expected. Granted, it was in an almost completely dark room lit by 2 bulbs in a 4Bank and some computer monitors. ISO pushed to 2000, but from what I've read about the C100 that shouldn't be a problem. The blacks especially have lots of blue noise--I cleaned this easily with crushing the blacks on the blue curve.

Now, I didn't do a black balance, does it really make that much of a huge difference on this camera?

I'm using the Wide DR profile which has sharpness at -2 ... should I be altering that profile to sharpness at -10?

This was shot on the SDHC card ... my green screen work will be recorded out to the Ninja2.

Thanks.

I suggest to you:

set sharpness to -5
yes, you need to do the ABB (and you need to repeat this quite often)
in 50i mode is cine1 better (no visible noise to ISO 6400 *with speed lens T1.5)
in 25p is WDR clean, if you make several ABB you will see the cleaner WDR in 25i (try NR0 vs NR5), use lights and speed lens.
you can use the noise reduction (from NR2 to NR6)

I hope this help, I had the same problem with WDR in 25i mode and it is much better now.

Black balance. Reduce sharpness to -2 -3 -5 or -8 (taste). Increase NR to +2 or more until your noise is acceptable. Save profile once you reach your liking. Then... Black balance. Then, black balance...

When you record out to the ninja, in camera noise reduction will have zero affect. I bet you will end up using internal recording for high Iso green screen.

Yes, the C100 is great in low light, but you can't expect top notch performance in a bad scenario. Chroma key stuff should be shot at lower ISO if you want it to be clean - especially if you are recording externally.

Also there is more noise in a scene that is hungry for light. I'd recommend getting more lights.
