C100: C100 Needs

I would like to see Canon provide a firmware upgrade that gives a lot of features, 1080 60-50P, 720-60-50P, 12bit 4:2:2 out of HDMI, full blown Intervalometer, broadcast specs, auto ISO, Focus Peaking,
Under and Over cranking. They can do all of this, and they could even charge a fee for these features in a firmware update, somewhere around $200-300. If I could purchase the C100 with these features, at the current price + FUG price, I would buy one right now! But as it stands now, I won't get one. I would even consider saving up for Canon Cine Prime lens, but I'm not going to invest into the system when its lack of features out ways the advantages it has over other DSLR's, mainly Dynamic Range and LL ability. If they did this they could not make them fast enough, and sell more of there lenses.

I'm going to wait till NAB and see what is announced. If nothing real competitive, or groundbreaking, I just may get a Panasonic GH3, pretty darn nice camera and some very robust features, that most of you C100 owners wish you had. It does lack the dynamic range and I think LL capabilities of the C100. C'mon Canon get smart, don't sell so many different bodies, sell maybe 2, and just market different upgrade platforms at different prices, makes sense to me, more product sold with out all the different models and it keeps your hardware and development cost down and allows for more profit through FUG, happier customers, loyalty to the system, more lenses sold!

You do realize that the C100 and C300 are literally flying off shelves and are the most sought after cameras in the rental market, right? While there is no perfect camera system and everyone could always find use for an extra feature or two or three, the differentiation between the two cameras in terms of their features, functionality, and price point is something that Canon very deliberately planned. I won't rule anything out for sure, but I think it's incredibly unlikely you'll ever see any of the features you've listed on the C100. Ever. And as long as the camera is flying off the shelves, I doubt that making changes via firmware will even cross Canon's mind.

I would like to see Canon provide...

The only saving grace with your post is the smiley in the headline. I'm assuming it was all written tounge in cheek...

While the new Cinema sensor does support (and is actually read out at) 60 fps, the Digic DV III (that's been around for many years now) does not. So no 60 fps firmware upgrade.

Same with 12 bit 4:2:2 over HDMI. Are you just throwing that out there? Have you read all the white papers? Also not firmware upgradable.

Intervalmeter/undercrank: yes. This is one thing that could possibly be added.

Auto ISO: for video capture? While camera is rolling?

Focus peaking is already there. Not sure what you mean by broadcast specs, but codec won't change. There is the C300 for those needs.

There was no shortage of people who underestimated the C100 due to specs before launch. I'm sure many still do.

Shall I add you to the list? The C100 is a steal.

They will and the new firmware update will be called...A new Camera.

Hate how their marketing departments play around with features between models.
We shall see at NAB.

What is LL ability?

It sounds like you like the GH3. For the money you can't do much better. I use a C100 because there are specific things I need (audio inputs, long battery life, c log so I can use it as a b cam with Alexa, EOS standard mode so I can use it as an A cam with dSLRs, mostly just compatibility with the EOS system to be honest), but if you don't need those things then the GH3 might be a much better camera for you, and it sounds like it is. If slow motion is important to you that alone could make the decision. Maybe next generation Canon will get your business, this generation they won't. You don't need anyone else to tell you the C100 isn't the camera for you.
