C100: C100 MrkII how do you split the audio to two channels...?

If I connect an external shotgun into the xlr channel 1, I can route it via settings to channel two as well, but they are locked together. Sorry my terminology is probably off. What I need is to set channel 2 at a different level. At NAB Canon was pretty sure it was possible. Prefer not to use a Y-cable. Thoughts?

I'd love to know if this was possible as well. It's handy to have a high and low channel for safety when you don't have time to closely monitor the levels!

Pretty sure that is not possible. One of the things missing from the C100 which I had hoped they'd have fixed with the Mark II, but I don't believe they have.

Y-cable. Good idea. Maybe I should get one of those (actually, I might already have one); I often film interviews with one mic plugged into the C100, and on occasion it hits a peak, so having that second channel recorded lower is quite nice.

Does splitting the audio feed with a y-cable deteriorate sound quality at all?

Its not possible on the original C100 so i use a XLR splitter cable. Grab one off eBay or you local

OK, thanks. I tried plenty of settings and didn't see any way to split that way. Whenever I do an interview I always split the audio as you mentioned for the same reason. When we shot with our old 5d MrkIII and did dual sound into a Tascam recorder I always used a splitter. The audio guys I've talked to all say the difference is so minimal you couldn't detect it. Go with a high quality one though. My opinion. We had a cheap one (Hosa) and it was not shielded well, fell apart in about a year.

I was a bit disappointed when I discovered that I couldn't do this with the C100 markii. I always did it on my FS100. It's a handy way to create the audio version of HDR.
