C100: C100 mkii STM face tracking no lens updates?

To think canon has not updated the firmware for the c100mkii to work with all STM lenses for face tracking is frustrating.

The 50mm 1.8 STM would be perfect for this feature on interviews with a nice blurry background.

How do we push for an update so that we can make use of the cheaper lens list..... Its limited to use the only available lenses.... 18-55, 55-250 and 10-18.....its a joke!

Rant over.

Yes it does, but the 3.5-5.6 is frustrating. All I want is face tracking on the 50mm stm. It would be the saving grace for focus on interviews.... Rather than having them sifting in the middle

I don't see where the current update addresses the OP's concern here. I agree with him 100% though. It's been a whole year for me as well hoping to see more STM offerings w/face detection. On the other hand, I don't really buy the story about how the 18-135 won't do what you need to get done now. I use it and find little issue with the transient nature of that lens. Auto iris works well enough. Even so, with an interview situ. how much is lighting going to be changing on you?? I must be missing something or doing completely different kind of work than others here.

Pretty sure that 'lighting changing' is not the
point here. Instead the idea is, the lens would
keep someone's face in sharp focus, even if
the interview subject shifted back and forth.

^You have not found the 18-135 Face Detection to work as such? I have. Post #3 brings-up the 3.5/5.6 bit. This is what I addressed and, again, I don't see a major issue with the auto-iris keeping-up while zooming. I'm not sure why he brought it up in the first place but activating Face Detection feature on the 50mm should/could/would be nice.

I personally wouldn't shoot an interview on that 18-135 lens.
Not a fan of variable aperture lenses for interviews. It's
not a question of if the auto iris can keep up with the
variable aperture while zooming. More of the issue
for some is that they want something faster than
5.6 at longer focal lengths.....which may be why the
autofocus works better on the 18-135, it doesn't have
the shallow depth of field that the 50 does. All the
current offerings are fairly slow, variable aperture
lenses. I think the OP wants something faster.

I do too but apparently it ain't gonna happen with Canon. Like I said (maybe I didn't yet) I've waited since last August for a lens pallet refresh from Canon (or updates with operational improvements such as what we are dealing with here) and just gave up. I either make use of what does work in the Canon line or went 3rd party. My business doesn't stand still like Canon... I really feel bad for the C300 guys and those businesses governed solely by their clients.

Additionally, I'll need to go hunt-down some YT video on AF suitability on a fast lens. You're hinting that the current iteration of DPAF on the C100MKII has issues? I use a 2.8/70~210 zoom all the time and never have seen focus-hunt that has ruined a shot. That's at 2.8 though...

Its the fact a 3000+ camera can use face tracking.... Only with 300 or less lenses.... But the c300 mkii can use any lens and it works..... Whats the point in canon bringing out cheap stm lenses for video use.... And one of the cinema cameras can't use it to the full potential.....

Has Canon confirmed that the new 18-135 IS USM with the servo zoom will work with C100 MII face tracking?

Any updates?

Did anyone know if at least the fast primes like the newer 50 will work with face detection?
