C100: C100 mkII MPEG4 clips? Anyone?

Any C100mkII owners out there willing to share a raw clip of the MPEG4 format? I am curious to see how well it plays with Premiere CS6, FCP, and AVID NLE's. I currently own a C100 and while the AVCHD works just fine with my Premiere, its a huge time sink when we need the footage on the timeline asap on other programs.

Thanks in advance!

here is a link to some footage:

if you, or any one else for that matter, decide to post them any where I request that you provide credit and a link back to my homepage: www.benvanhouts.com :)

Coincidental timing on this topic. I read that the new C100 records AVCHD & MPEG4 simultaneously. That would have really helped me on a recent shoot. I have 5 hours of footage and the now client wants to "view" the raw. So instead of me having to spend all weekend, which I am doing now, and making her MPEG4s or QT so she can pull takes, had I been able to record an MPEG4 version at the same time, wow, what a time saver! I don't see it as an editing asset but as a client viewing format.

Why don't you give her the MTS files? VLC will read the MTS files no problem.

These are mxf files from P2 plus I don't think a corp exec has VLC and with IT security nowadays they're not allowed to download apps to their computers. Plus she needs to read the TC for note taking.

So, having MP4 as an option will help me when the clients need readable files for notes. Sometimes they do it on the plane ride back home. However, I ruled out the new C100 since it doesn't have 4K

Cheers for sharing the footage!
I have a question too. Is the mp4 just a wrapper? Is the quality the same?
If so why ever use AVCHD? to burn stuff directly to blueray?

Cheers

AVCHD has higher quality audio. MP4 audio is 256kbps compressed.

I agree this can be a pain. You can use Clipwrap to speed things up - it's not instantaneous, but much faster than transcoding in my experience. It also fixes PSF if you are shooting 30p, for about $30 it's pretty worthwhile.

Hi Remsy,

I own Clip Wrap but from now on, if I'm hired as "just the cameraman", I'm not willing to spend any time at home, doing post, so they can view the footage. I guess I will have to have something in my agreement or email explaining that their editor will have to do some kind of conversion. That's why it would be cool to do a simultaneous MP4 for their viewing pleasure, often on the plane home.

A few years back JVC had a line of cams that did .mov and the few times I used them the clients were ecstatic. However the cameras weren't great. I'd buy this new C100 but without it having 4K it seems DOA. Hey, thanks for the card!

When the C100 Mark II records AVCHD and MP4 simultaneously, the MP4 files are only 4mbps (in other words not the 35mbps that the camera can shoot if you film in MP4 mode). They are more like small proxy files to AVCHD and/or to give someone the ability to view the content at a low quality. As far as I can tell the camera cant shoot full quality AVCHD and full quality MP4 at the same time.

That's fine by me because the clients just want to take notes for their editor. I hope the time code in the proxies is not counter TC but actual laid down TC.

To anyone interested an update: Premiere Pro CS6 takes both the AVCHD and MP4 without a hitch, plug and play. AVID and FCP still need to re-encode the footage, doesn't matter which wrapper it uses. It's a shame really, as all the other updates make the c100 mkii a very tempting upgrade but the recording format was a deal breaker.
