C100: C100 Lens suggestions

I've got a C100 on order my intentions is to buy a hand gimbal rig eventually so I need a wide EF lens (I believe you need an EF lens to work with the new software upgrade? and does it have to be a Canon EF or would 3rd parties work with it?) So with that in mind what is the sharpest and most affordable lens to go for. I wouldn't go much higher than £1000

I know about the crop factor of the sensor so the wider the better really but sharpness is a primary factor.

Thanks

The 18-135 is a great run around lens with FAST autofocus (with the front button on the cam). It's soft on a DSLR, but the softness is much less a problem at 1080 and actually helps reduce aliasing/moire.

For beauty/interviews. Nikkor and Contax glass are both great with adaptors.

I'm not that bothered about that much range something 16-35 because I already have Nikon 24-70 & 70-200 glass which I will be getting an adaptor for but the question was mainly for use on a hand held gimbal something wide and not very heavy AND has to work with the auto focus software upgrade.

Thats the thing I have heard conflicting reports that it only works with Canon EF but then also works with any third party EF

The Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 sounds like it's up your alley. I have that lens and it's just perfect on the C100. Fast, sharp, well damped and not as expensive as the 16-35L. Not sure about 2.8 though... ?

I agree with the previous post about the Sigma 18-35. I have used it on the c100 with no Auto Focus and it's tough to beat. I believe Erik posted a video using it on the c100.

Okay dont laugh but this little Canon 40mm pancake is pretty darn good.

I used it on this morning image spot and it's very sharp with little to no distortion. Sure looks silly but it works! No way to use it with all the toys because it's so small but for interviews and broll or just keeping it light on a stabilizer it's a keeper!

Love it on the 70D too. The STM AF will be awesome with the upgrade on the C100 and C300 as well.

Love it Erik.
I like your Kino 4 bank setup. Can you tell me what light you used for your hairlight and also if you used that same setup for the video above?
Thanks for all you do

Thanks! Yes thats pretty much the setup tweaked for each person. The back light is 100 pepper and I also used a 350 ARRI as well. Again depends on the hair color.
