C100: C100 in FCP X

I'm looking into getting the C100 for our organization as a B-cam for our C300. I love the XF codec of the C300, but can't justify the expense of 2 of them. How well does the C100's AVCHD play with FCP X? Does FCP X read the camera? Does it import as progressive (we shoot 30P). Can you edit with AVCHD directly (I don't want to convert all of our footage to ProRes)? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Yes you can edit native AVCHD in FCPx. You have to go to the info for each clip and tell FCPx its progressive but other than that it works well. Tbh I have only used native footage for one large job and I ended up transcoding to ProRes as I felt the AVCHD slowed me down a little, however, it was a shoot and edit in one day type of project so speed was important.

I normally use a Ninja 2 with my C100 which gives me ProRes natively. That would also be an option for you as its cost is not prohibitive. You also get footage that has a higher bit rate than the C300.

No need to go to each clip. You just highlight all of them and click once to set them all as progressive.

Or buy Clipwrap! It's $50 but gives you many options for converting the clips, simple rewrap (very fast!) or convert to a bunch of codecs. New version has an optimize for FCP feature that will make the rewrapped clips progressive, no need to mess around in FCP, when you import them they are already progressive! No matter if they are 30p or 24p (c100 records them in 60i) it outputs them native progressive. Best way to deal with the AVCHD clips for use in FCPX I find.

Yup! I shot some long 20 minute plus clips for timelapse and it showed it as two clips in clipwrap, then after processing it was one clip! Not sure about stitching a clip that spans two cards though.
