C100: c100 II and 80D or GH4 + lens suggestions

C100 shooting WDR and the 80D shooting in Prolost Flat are already 80% of the way there, as far color. A bit of tweaking and you can make them pretty close although the greater detail on the C100 is always the giveaway. The 80D isn't nearly as sharp or detailed. But I shot a rehearsal piece for Dancing with the Stars. 80D on gimbal and C100 handheld with the 70-200 2.8 and the piece cut together pretty nicely. It's all movement so you are not focusing on the differences in the image very much like you would in an interview or narrative piece.

I didn't edit the piece either, an editor on the east coast did it but he reported that the two cut together pretty well.

I am using the 80D side by side with my C100. Great little camera, the DPAF is a lifesaver for shooting with it on a gimbal and the other features are outstanding. It actually has a better image/newer sensor and more sophisticated DPAF than the 7D MKII at a lot less money, although granted the 7D MKII is built a lot more solidly.

Did you manage to compare the 80D with the 5D III?

Yes, I have a friend who has the 5D MKIII that I shoot with once in a while as a B camera. It's what you'd expect. 5D MKIII has better color and contrast. But the 5D MKIII video is super soft and mushy, the 80D video is less mushy and soft would be the only way I could describe it. The C100 obviously is leagues sharper and more detailed than both. Objectively, between the two, if I could only have one, for me, it would be the 80D simply because of the DPAF, it's more useful to me. What good is better image quality if 70% of your shots are out of focus? the 5D MKIV seems to have pretty good AF, that would be a nice camera to shoot with but for the money, I would buy a C100 easily, it's such a better video camera.

Shoot went well, I ran the whole day on the 17-55. There were only two times when I should've switched to my 70-200 but didn't have it handy. Now to rig it up!
