C100: C100 Handle 1/4" mounting hole failure; be careful!

The c100 handle sucks. Got a manfrotto super clamp stuck in it and it would not come out at all, had to send it in to canon and pay 100 to get it removed.

You know people this is really starting to get amusing. What are you trying to put on that small C100 handle that would require a Manfrotto Super Clamp. The clamp itself weighs a pound. Try not to blame the manufacturer when you decide to abuse the product. The C100 handle is what it is. This is a $6000 camera and like nearly all $6000 cameras it has some plastic involved.

I've just received a C100 this week and have been working with how to use the camera in its smallest form and also rigged with a full studio setup. First, if you are not going to use rails then you might as well keep it as stripped down as possible. I don't plan to mount anything to the handle bigger than a small wireless receiver. Trying to mount a big arm and monitor/recorder to the handle is just asking for trouble. I'll get some pictures up when I get the full rig together. It is a challenge to put this together in a way that will function in everyday production from handheld to Tripod, dolly, slider and jib. But then, so is building a rig for an Epic.

I could definitely see using a superclamp to rig the camera itself to something, a branch or a pipe or whatnot, it's light enough and small enough to lend itself to that kind of thing, as long as you don't hang an enormous lens off of it. That 1/4" port has been extremely handy for me for all kinds of things, I'm going to miss it. I've put a wireless receiver on it, a shock mount for a long shotgun when using a wide angle lens so it wouldn't poke into the shot, small monitor, Ninja... it's a very useful attachment point in a logical place. But my point of this post is that it is probably more fragile than you think, so use with caution. Now that mine's ruined, I'll probably look into a cheeseplate to go in between the camera and handle. And yeah, I'm also finding new ways to use this little beast 'way stripped down, handheld, with minimal anything on it, and it's awesome.

It is fragile and I would suggest not rigging your camera from a 1/4 20 screw mount to a branch or whatnot. There are proper ways to rig a camera or heavy monitor without damaging the camera. I really can't afford to use a camera like this as a crash cam.
