C100: C100 for a Red MX

And the guy who had one of his films (written/ directed by himself and shot on a red) admitted to Cannes. So yeah.

now you're dodging the point David called you on. how about you answer to that instead of trying to validate yourself? if you have a reasonable argument, it will be welcome, but you've got a real contradiction on your hands

What are you guys talking about? Find one thing in my discussion that is not a fact. I don't like that not one person tried to evaluate unbiasedly. Since you guys own a C100 it's the best camera huh? lol. Like anyone would even consider the c100 if they could find a RED or c300 or fs700. Besides... If you look at my ads... My preference is a fs700 KIT!!! Plus cash on that person's end because my camera is still worth that much.

NOT TO MENTION!!! You guys are defending someone that agreed to a deal and backed last minute. A deal that I WAS SOLD ON. That's not OK. It waste a lot of time. So, yeah... again.

It just sucks to see it because of this. Because it's soooo blantantly clear how hardcore of fan boys there are here. It's worse than at a comicbook convention.

I don't own a C100, I own a Red Epic.

And I don't offer up advice based on being a fanboy, I offer up advice based on what might be best for the OP, based on what info he or she has provided.

All the best!

Dave

Well, I own all three REDs. C100 doesn't compare in any way shape or form. Especially image wise. EVEN on the web. He had to offer high end canon glass and cash to make it an equal trade. And I'm generalizing when I say "all." Replace that word with "Majority."

I own both a C100 AND an Epic, and my reccomendation stands.

It just sound like you are pissed because you couldn't trade your Red One for a C100!

Get over it, and go make more movies for the Festival de Cannes.

I am. I feel misled. I'm trying to get something done and hate to have my time wasted. Get over it? Look, my ads are still up and I'm bidding on what I need on ebay so I'll be fine. But all the hate here... As if I were trying to cheat him almost. That's ridiculous! As if he was on the short end of the stick at all. The sentiment blows my mind.

Oh and... You don't have to get involved. Leave it be. Don't antagonize and expect people to just accept that. You guys gave your opinion and I gave mine.

Whoa guys!!

First of al I do apprecaite all the advise, that is the reason I posted the question. Second, we were still discussing the trade, so no commitment was made, after doing more research, not just the advice here, I came to the conclusion that despite the fact that I was looking to own a Red, after all was said and done, the c100 would serve me better at this time.

I would have to upgrade camera support, my production workflow and being a one man crew for the most part, things would be a little bit tougher.

No one was being mis-led and I don't feel cheated, I saw the ad and I responded to it but things didn't work out, that is all.

Looking forward to the c100 firmware upgrade

Here is the reason why I need my fs100s, I shoot a lot of events, local concerts, beauty pageants and they have become a cash cow for the moment. So currently using 3 cameras to get multiple angles. One thing Iw ill be doing is selling my XF300 and getting a fs700, that way my events will be covered and using c100 for the low budget narratives and music videos. I then also have the option of getting the 4K upgrade to the fs700 if I absolutely need 4K

Thanks for the solid advice

glad to hear you were able to make an informed decision.

hisonni, your opinions would have been fine, but you came in, RED guns abazing, without any seeming regard for what the OP had stated as his preference and particular needs. This is not about which camera rules or sucks, it's about what works for a particular person's needs. keep the tone neutral and it will stay cool as a cucumber in here. this is a community of people sharing information, not just a place to sell/trade your unwanted gear, and hence when you come out lobbying for that piece of gear you're trying to sell, it doesn't look good.

cheers,

I'm confused (not really though). I'd the guy saying TRADE YOUR c100 for a 25lb red mx actually in the marketplace trying to get an fs700 or even a c100 for his red mx. Even if his film was submitted to Cannes?
I mean, you can't make this up right. Lol.

10lbs camera. Check specs son. See... No facts. Just a Canon fanboy. If 10lbs is an issue... Hit the gym. In one of my photos I'm supporting this camera on a Manfrotto 516. Check those specs too.

why do you keep on digging this hole for yourself?

like i tried to advise you, keep it civil and it won't be an argument, it will be a conversation. if you continue along the path of antagonism, what possible outcome can you expect other than resentment and backlash?

what you could have said to retort the 25lb red one claim: "the body only is 10lbs, yes you need a battery and monitor and a few other things to get it going which will add to the weight, but you can easily keep the total weight to under 20lbs"

and calling someone a fanboy, well, thats as likely to stir up anger as much as this is

I'm going to write this fast so excuse my spelling errors and what not.

Actually DARREN... My opinions are "fine" regardless of how you feel about them. But from my perspective, I entered a entire thread about how impractical a RED MX is when a few forums away... I'm trying to sell or trade one. That could directly effect my cause. Mind you, this is a thread that never mentioned specs, cost or prestige the technology in question has. A post that completely blind sided me in the middle of a possible business arrangement. And to expect me to not come in with "RED guns a blazing" is unreasonable. I own a RED. It help elevate my career and I'm only trading it only because I have more than one. Not to mention, possible RED owners need my opinion here. My opinion is one of the few that makes this particular thread balanced. If you don't like that Darren, your not supposed to. We are in opposition. But dont mistake my being in opposition of anyone as a lack of respect. Respect for my opposition has nothing to do with my firm position on this topic. Besides, you can't hear my tone. I could be smiling while writing this. Or using a very respectful tone, for all you know. So don't jump to conclusions. This isn't worth all that.

The fact does remain however, that not one person bothered to mention specs or the ways in which the MX camera in question is more efficient and versatile. That shows a definite bias here. Because the benifits are clearly there. ONCE AGAIN, how many oscar nominated films where shot on a C100? If you work with a RED you know that it saves as much time as any other camera, and if your doing a "low budget" film as Omar originally mentioned... RED's and Alexa's are bar none top choice. Regardless of who you are because any thing a c100 can do... A RED can. Especially in the hands of a good DP. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said the other way. But no one mentioned that. It's just a "Don't do it thread."

FWI. I jumped over to the sony forum a few seconds ago... They are totally bashing the C series of cameras there. Calling them over priced under performers. So the bias isn't isolated to this thread. If you really wanted to be helpful you'd list specs and price. Then do a check list. Which ever got the most checks... Is the thing he should do. That's a helpful way to go about things.

You of all people should know this considering you have a review show. Perhaps, you have a grudge against anyting that's not in the prosumer price range? Or a bias against anything that not DIY?

BTW... I also take pleasure in calling out anyone that hides behind the words "Impartial, unbiased or fair" rather than actually doing/being said thing. I'm done. Fanboy away. I'm going to grab a Sony now.

And your wrong! The weight varies... Plain and simple. What if I'm using a belt clip for my battery? What if I'm using ssd? OR CF cards? Stop Darren, you dont know what you're talking about lol. Stay out of it... You making yourself look worse dude.

I have easily flown a MX kit on my Steadicam that is less that 15lbs. So, youre wrong! And even worse you arguing with someone that HAS THE CAMERA RIGHT NOW. Stop it lol!
