I shot some pregnancy cinematic film and had plenty of joy. With canon 50mm 1.2 L and good lighting I got some amazing flares. I want to share it with you and to know what you are thinking about that...
I think the light is beautiful in a lot of your shots but I did not like the camera movement one bit. It's probably simply a difference in style, but for me that sort of aimless floating movement is really distracting. There were a handful of times when I was unable to read the expression of your subject because the camera simply wouldn't stay in one place long enough for me to do so. For this video in particular (and always in my opinion) camera movement should be deliberate and controlled.
But otherwise, you made a great video. I'm sure the couple really liked it.
fabulous looking images! love the exposure and like you said the flares are beautiful.
agree with Finnegan though. camera movement is distracting for me too.
i looked thru a few of your other wedding videos and your stuff is A+ all the way. absolute exceptional images. lots of variety of types of shots with steadicam etc.
maybe the movement just seemed like more since all shots were handheld?
still though youve got your concept & look and edit down to a science! amazing work!
I'm presuming it's the new 50mm 1.2 - I have the Canon FD mounted 50mm 1.2 and found it unusable wide open simply because it's so soft. Looked great at f2, arguably could look better than the modern Canon 50mm 1.4 at 1.4, just. But it's all about how you use it.
I bought the FD 50 1.2 for the FS100, which didn't like it - not sure if I should sell it as-is or get it converted to EOS moun, as the Sigma 50 1.4 is very clean and sharp - but therein lies the rub.
For lens flares, does one need to consider older 'vintage' lenses for their uncoated look combined with lead glass for certain elements (which lends a certain deepness to blacks)?
Schidt Optiks springs to mind... As do many tutorials on Lens Whacking.
However, it's really interesting to see how you're opening up a new market - wedding videos lead to 'announcement' and 'fiancee' videos, we've had 'memorial' ('I'm dead now' and 'funeral videos'), so it's good to see this trend too.
