C100: C100 + Canon 24-105 F/4

Hi Ned,

I was going through some older posts and I noticed yours. Can you explain what you meant by "always have the shutter on otherwise motion blur will make the image soft"?
I'm not clear on how you are supposed to have the shutter always on.

Thank you!
James

If you leave the shutter "off" then when you pan or things move in frame you get motion blur which means the image looks soft until the movement stops. So go into your shutter setting and choose Degree, then pick 180 degrees and don't change it unless there's pressing circumstances. If you're shooting 30fps then the C100 will automatically set your shutter at 60 degrees. If you're shooting at 24fps then the camera will set the shutter automatically at 48 degrees, etc.

That's all you need to know. If you loan or rent your camera to someone always make sure when you next shoot that in the VF you see 180 listed. Sometimes you may want to play with shutter such as a Saving Private Ryan look, filming fast subjects you may want to raise it (although too high may create stuttering) or if a client says they want to make stills from freeze framing your work which is common in the corporate video biz. Hopefully that makes sense?
