C100: C100 and SD Cards

Used two Transcend 64GB Class 10 cards.

I've had many Transcend CF and SD cards over the years. They are often early to offer large capacity high speed cards among best prices. Never had an issue.

Now that I'm looking at 128GB CF cards, when other brands are $700 plus, Transcend is $399.

Memory card brands can turn into religion for some. I guess if you started out with high end cards and then hear stories about cheaper cards failing and whatnot, of course you're going to stay with the expensive cards. I started out with price/performance, never had an issue, so of course I'm not going to pay double when "my brand" never failed.

And any brand can fail. I you lose data due to no backup, you know who's to blame. It's not the card maker...

64GB is nearly 6 hours of video. When that consumer-quality-design card fails, that 6 hours goes away. Maybe it's a necessity if you're literally shooting nonstop all day, but you won't find me with a card larger than 16GB on a normal shoot. $30 for two top-speed Sandisks is practically nothing compared to the cost if everything else, including your time and everyone else's. I say smaller cards are they way to go, even if you have to swap once or twice, just in case the worst should happen...

Agreed. But I'm happy with the dual slot instant backup.

I'd probably sooner lose data due to card juggling and losing the cards themselves, than due to two corrupted cards at the same time.

Yup dual slot recording FTW. I have x2 32gb sandisk ultras and 99% of the time they are on dual record. 3 hours backed up recording.

I agree with Nate Haustein 100%. 64GB cards are way too large. Although I never experienced any problems with my cards, the Devil is ugly...

I use the new Transcend 64GB 600x cards, gives 85mb/s transfer speeds & allows me to dump an entire card in 10 minutes. Dual record is an awesome back-up so no need to worry about losing cards, I do think that juggling smaller cards is a bigger risk as they physically get lost. In my industry if I lose 16Gb or 64Gb I'm totally screwed either way.

i use 2 sandisk extreme pro 64gbs

works extremly well

for c100 there are 4 functions that allows you to use a 64gb instead of a 16GB

First, it auto split long clips into short ones due to FAT32 or codec whatever reason , one file cant be bigger than 1.90 gb.

second, when you lose power in the middle of shooting, you switch battery, when you power back on, it guides you to recover your lost footage (I never lose a single second, LOVE THIS FUNCTION)

third, dual slot recordings (everyone knows)

fourth, AUTO SWITCH ! it automatically switches from A to B ! thats so convienent

you might ask, who the hell needs 688 mins ( 64gb = 344 mins ) of footage, well, Indian receptions / weddings, LOL !

anyways.

I use 2x Transcend 64GB SDXC on dual slot recording for recording weddings. Now card changes are one less issue to think about during hectic shooting.

I was using Transcend for everything, SD & CF. But I've recently had a lot of problems with these cards corrupting date, every once in awhile getting a frame or two of pixelation. I've switched over to the Sandisk Extreme Pro for my serious work now.
