C100: C100 and IS on the 17-55?

How good is the IS on the 17-55 combined with the C100 for handheld work? I'm used to handheld shooting with the Canon 100 2.8 L macro lens on my 5D3 and I'm able to shoot without any shaking.

I currently own next lenses:

- Canon 16-35mm 2.8 mk1
- Canon 100mm 2.8 IS Macro L
- Sigma 70-200mm 2.8 OS (latest model)

I also have access to these lenses whenever I need them:

- Samyang 14mm 2.8
- Samyang 35mm 1.4
- Sigma 35mm 1.4 art
- Sigma 50mm 1.4

On the 5D3 I was mostly using the Samyang 35mm and the Canon 100mm, all of it more or less handheld. Considering the C100 with side grip and top handle weights about twice as much as 5D3 I'm just not as steady with it. I rarely used the 16-35 before and I'm thinking about switching it for the 17-55. The long end (55mm) isn't really the same FOV as the 100mm on the 5D3 but close enough (I've done some shooting with the 24-70 on C100 and find that there isn't much difference for me between 55mm and 70mm - 70 is almost the same as 100mm on 5D3).

But I'm wondering just how good the IS is on the 17-55. There is no option to rent one where I'm located. I don't like the idea of the 18-135 or any other lens without fixed aperture.

I like it, not too strong and looks fairly natural without the slight floating delay i see with some i.s. It also renders a lovely image on the c100 - i recommend

It's the lens I use most on my C100. I think it's really the perfect walking around, handheld lens. People often claim it has L-quality optics, though not L-quality construction. Even when zoomed all the way in to 55mm, I find that with just a bit of concentration, you can get very steady shots with the IS on.

The IS on the 17-55 isn't in the same league as the IS on the 100L. Canon has been steadily improving the IS on their lenses. The 16-45 f/4L IS, 18-135 STM, and 24-70 f/4L IS all have the newer image stabilization.

I did some tests and actually found that I prefer the IS on the 24-105 than on the 24-70 f/4.
