Is it possible that either of these camera's can actually output a 4k image at some point and time either by a firmware update or a Magic Lantern Hack?
Very Curious as I know 4k is here for high end acquisition but I think that for the Masses it will be readily available at lower price points very soon.
Investing in a Camera like this is a commitment I dont' take lightly.
I want to have something that will last for a while.

Thanks,
Michael

My initial question is more leaning for the C100.
Im curious if the limitation if there is one for these camera's is hardware or software relate.

Nobody knows other than Canon. But I can say this: only buy a product that does what you need. Never buy a product hoping that someday it will change into what you were expecting.

It is nothing short of astonishing, what the ML guys have accomplished. But it is also extremely rare; think of the hundreds or thousands of professional, prosumer, and consumer DSLR camera models that have been introduced in the last couple of decades. How many have had substantial capabilities added after the fact? You can count them on your fingers.

So there may be some added capabilities in the future, but the odds are very high that there won't be. So don't buy into frustration and aggravation. If the manufacturer has not specifIcally promised some future expanded capability, then don't expect it.

You should only buy a product if it does exactly what you need, right now, with the full expectation and understanding that it will not change.

They both have 4K sensors. My guess is that they have the capability. Canon has a history of crippling their products. Look at the 5DM3 and the raw video hype going on right now. However, I agree with Barry_Green, Don't buy it because you want 4k later because it may never happen. 4k is really not needed right now for most work.

They don't have the capability, that's why C500 has an additional module to ouput RAW signal to external recorders. They can't handle the massive amount of data in camera.

uff guy u want 4k!?!? all i want for my c300 is 1080 60p and 99.9999999% it will never happen, not even externally.

if u want 4k - there are many options, why do u even consider c100 for the option that it does not has, and option that never was mentioned by manufacture?

u need 4k there are BM, sony FS700, Sony new Fs, C500, Red and probably more - plenty to choose from!
