Hi,
Does anyone have experience with the GH2 or GH1 in combination with a c-mount such as the Pentax 6mm for star lapses?
For a project where traveling light is very important I wondered if a c-mount might not be an option. My concern here is not really the video function that from examples I've seen I judge quite acceptable using ECT. I'm wondering about stills and night usage - in particular star lapses.
Cons:
slapping such a lens on the cam and taking stills (or video) means that only a portion of the pixels will be usable. With some tolerance for vignetting (acceptable with a dark night sky I believe), one can just make it to FullHD but 720p is certainly save. While the resulting cropped image should still conform to 15mm on my Tokina in terms of FOV sadly the noise would be blown up by 2-point-something
Pros:
The lens is fast, so settings can be chosen that generate less noise.
The lens has a short focal length. Using the formular 500/full-format focal length this means, that I should be able to use much longer exposures before the stars become blury (40 seconds as supposed to 20 seconds, when compared to the Tokina)
Both these factors should allow me to chose settings generating less noise.
If I'm not way off with my thinking here...does anyone have experience how the pros and cons even out here?
Greetings,
Johannes
