C300: C log color correction

Have a c300 and shooting clog.

I know this may be the wrong forum for this post but I don't know where to put it. Feel free to move this to a different section ifneed be.

My question:
So quick question: I understand when doing primary color correction for continuity its best to choose a master shot to base subsequent shots and shot corrections off of. My question is for the master shot -- do you use this shot BEFORE or AFTER applying primary color correction?

Would I grad my master shot first with primary color correction and then use this as a baseline for continuity for the rest of the scene?

Or would you choose a master shot and then match the rest of the shots to it (before doing any kind of correction)?

My intuition tells me you first correct the master shot and then use that as a reference shot for the rest of scene. But I'm just not sure.

What is the standard way to do this?

Hope my question is clear. Again I will be using clog. Don't know if that matters.

Thanks in advance!

Well...To me, first you have to know that there is no 'standard' way to do any color correction between different shots. Sometimes the reference can be a close up, because it is the most recurrent, or sometimes because it's a specific lens, of maybe you have 3 canon C300's and one A7S and even if you're master is made with a A7s you want to color correct it to the majority of the footage, e.g. the C300s...

So you have to act inteligently in regard of the edit.

But, regarding you're specific question, yes, you have to "grade" (maybe you don't have to "correct" it but just apply a little contrast / color, which doesn't have to be 'correction') your master shot first, then match the other shots.
I mean, if you're shooting log, you can't just match the other footage to....log right ?

First you grade the master log (contrast, saturation, color...)
Then you match the rest to it.

Wow thanks for your answer. That totally makes sense. Grade first. Sometimes I just don't see the obvious. So if I wasn't using clog it would be the same principle--grade master shot first right?

Again thank you so much
