Bye bye Karma GoPro. You had no chance.

I’m getting the Mavic just a matter of when.

Me too, in November or Santa will bring me one. I am pretty much sold after the video Erik shared, showing what it looks like when it's in focus. I do still see some Jello but that can be edited around most of the time. To me, the Mavic is a like a dream piece of gear, something that a year ago sounded like science fiction. And just think, this is only Gen 1 of small, personal drones. They will get quieter, have longer flight times, more autonomous features and will get cheaper while the camera and gimbal tech gets even better. Exciting times we live in. I held off on drones for the same reasons most of you did, too large, too much hassle, too expensive once you get all of the toys and accessories for it. But the Mavic is definitely a paradigm shift product. Some will buy the Karma, it won't be a total flop, it has it's purpose and inexplicably some are hypnotized by the detachable gimbal. Those have been out for two years now for Go Pros and are now under $200.00 and will soon drop to probably under $150.00 so I don't know why a lot of people are so seduced by that? Personally, I like for the camera to stay on the drone and use a separate camera on the ground, perhaps while the drone is flying? But I can see the appeal to sports people who are out skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, less gear to carry and hassle with. But for me, it's the Mavic all of the way. I have an Osmo and DJI has been okay to deal with, they actually expedited shipping my Osmo, from China, to get it to me for shoot I was leaving for overseas. They have been slow, but responsive.

I'm more interested in the Karma simply because I have yet to be impressed with the image from DJI products. At work, we have the Osmo and the Inspire 1 Pro with X5 camera. I personally have a GoPro and it out performs the DJI cameras, hands down (at least for me). I'm sure it's possible to get good images from DJI, but I haven't figured out how yet and sometimes that counts for something when making a purchase decision. I also like that the Karma doesn't make you use your phone for a remote screen. It's completely self contained which is a huge plus when your phone is used for so many other filmmaking tasks. The last thing I want is to have to use it as a monitor too.

Unless wearing these for more than :05 would instantly give you motion sickness or a migraine? Not sure if they have figured out the convergence issues for stereo headsets but I know that for 3D headsets/glasses/goggles, which has obviously more convergence issues, about 10-12% of the population gets an instant headache and or nauseous. Have you heard if that is a factor for these types of headsets?

I have yet to be impressed with the image from DJI products. At work, we have the Osmo and the Inspire 1 Pro with X5 camera.
hmmm, not sure I agree with this. In my experience, even the Inspire X3 with the Sony Exmor sensor (which I believe is a step down in the Inspire line), looks better than Go Pro footage.

You don't agree that I have yet to be impressed with DJI based on my experience?
The images we get are noisey, they flicker and are just mushy. The GoPro stuff we've done is always super sharp and crisp. Another thing, in my experience, their customer support sucks. We had a bad battery back in June that we've been trying to get RMA'd. They keep giving us the run around and telling us it's on the truck being shipped. This has been ongoing for months. The Karama definitely has my attention.

I don't agree that GoPro footage looks better than DJI, I have edited a ton of GoPro 3-4 in the past year and almost as much from DJI X3 and some X5. The DJI X3 and X5 for sure, have a much better look and less distortion. I bought an Osmo plus which arrived last week and love the footage it delivers. I bought the DJI rather than a GoPro solution based on the footage I had editing . None of the footage I edited with these cameras was shot by me, but rather by others who used them for all the time.
But each to his own.
I too will be buying a Mavic, though admit to being totally on board with the size and ease of use that the Karma offered when I saw the release, but DJI came back strong in the fourth quarter with an even easier drone to use. My use for it will be value added on small projects, if I need serious work done I will do as many others and hire someone who does it all the time. Plus even at my age a new toy is cool!

That's interesting; the in depth review says the camera image is better than the Phantom 4 as opposed to the opposite that some others have said

Based upon what I have seen, the Mavic footage has less in camera sharpening, the P4 footage always looks over sharpened to me. I would much rather control the amount of sharpening applied in post. Colors seem different, but I will be shooting flat and grading so not a huge concern, I have seen footage with beautifiul color out of both models. Mavic is shaping up to be a game changer, if it lives up to the hype we are seeing.

Maybe this will drop the price on the Phantom 3 more. And possibly the 4 as well

I keep seeing the P3 on Amazon for like, $450.00! That seems really inexpensive but I know there a few models of P3 so maybe that's for the less desirable variant? This would be my first drone so all of the auto features seem really important for me but if I already was a fluent pilot, seems like P3 would be a pretty good deal these days?
