Bye bye Karma GoPro. You had no chance.

Wow, that's actually a cool feature. I think you are right Erik, nobody out there has even said anything about this as far as people flying it so they probably had no idea that was a feature. Leave it to Erik to have the real skinny on what's what. These images look crisp and great. Changes everything.

Thanks Erik!

I just learned the camera on the Mavic isn't set at infinity like a GoPro. You have to manually focus by tapping the screen of the smartphone on the area you want to focus. This is going to cause a lot of soft samples in the wild with early testers. The advantage of this is to be able to get crisp focus on subjects that are closer. Maybe DJI needs to have a panoramic mode for those sweeping landscape flyovers to avoid soft images.

Here is good sample that you can download. Looks really good to me.

Man Erik this explains a WHOLE lot! I was wondering why the DJI examples looked so much better than some of the review clips

Yea...especially from B&H. I usually preorder stuff for the heck of it just to get a spot in line and then cancel way down the road if I change my mind...not a few hours after, lol.

Would it be possible to use an Ipad with this drone? Doesn't look like it. I find the most challenging thing to actually see what I'm shooting when on a sunny day. Even with sun hood it can be difficult to judge if I nailed it.

You are more the market for the Phantom.

On second thought, I don't know this for a fact but good chance that you can control it from ONLY an iPad and not the controller. As long as the DJI Go app runs okay on yor iPad, you should be able to use it, we see from the videos that you can definitely control it with only your phone. But the range will be really short, you need the controller to get the long range.

The portability alone makes it useful for me and as Erik said just adding a lil something extra/element to some of my shots.

I saw the video and the small DJI pouch. However, I wonder if you guys are not planning to carry extra batteries. Are you only going to shoot with one battery? At times, I need several sorties before I am satisfied with the shot. No problem with the operator (who is my partner) but in terms of getting the moving elements (read birds) in the landscape right. If you are on a trek and get one good landscape and then move on to another fine location and suddenly you may not find enough juice in the copter to fight the winds and get the desired shot. These pouches are not designed to carry three or four batteries. So anyway, you are going to stash it in some kind of backpack.

Despite all of you feeling that the quality of the Mavic Pro is great, I feel the quality of the Go Pro Hero 5 is better. Look forward to some of the US based filmmakers to get both and do a review.

Yes, you can control it from an iPad, the controller also has a USB socket and the device runs DJI Go it's just a case of mounting the iPad and controller together. No doubt something will pop up on eBay shortly.

The devices main attraction is its size for run and gun, an independent test has shown a flight time of over 26 min in a hover, so for something you can clip on your belt you have nearly half an hour to get your shot.

WowI know that phrase was thrown here and there to many times but this is a true game changer. For many this will be their first drone. I'm actually super excited to see what people will do with it. We will probably see a lot of expeditions using drone for the first time, where before it was just to much hassle to carry it. Next step will be fully autonomus drones. Ones that will be able to start at certain time, fly and land completely by the selfves. Think about drone timelapses ;)

Forgot to add, I think its superb and its on my shopping list, now I will be able to run and gun and carry a drone.

I got a P3P at the beginning of the year, and for the few times I've flown it (its just for fun) - its not actually travel friendly at all, and so I haven't used it as much as I thought I would due it the hassles.

I wanted to take it on holiday, but its another piece of luggage.

This new foldable, portable drone - is amazing. Chuck it in hang luggage, carry it around. Im sold.

It boggles my mind that some criticize this drone. A device of this quality that nearly fits in a pocket that is ready to fly in less than a minute.

Well you know, everyone has opinions. I'm sure there are some who were quite excited about the Karma (myself included) and just don't like DJI. For me, the Karma was interesting at first but then the Mavic was announced and that settled it for me.
