Just wondering how this guy never gets charged import duty? Does he not insure them and put on a low value for the item? Seems risky
Same type of deal happens with private carriers as well. I had skis shipped in from Canada by FedEx and received a "customs duty" invoice later. I ignored it and they never instisted on itI think a lot of overseas sellers probably do that...some even say they will.
Once a plain-clothes postal worker (NOT my regular mail-man), came to my apartment to deliver an expensive GH1 lens from Japan. He asked for like $30 in customs charges (it had an invoice stuck on it). I told him I didn't have it (it just seemed odd...like a scam). He said he would take it straight back to the post office where I could pick it up. I grabbed some cash, and went down to pick it up. The lady working at the counter, you know the type, just gave me the package. I reluctantly asked about the charge...(figuring it would be easier to just pay it now than get in trouble for not paying it later)...and she said "I don't know what that is, we never do that". ??? Gotta love the USPS. It's no wonder they're so broke.![]()
This guy is amazing. I have been debating if I should get a second one as a safety measure. When I finally made up my mind, the red version was already gone. I ordered a black one but stated that I wish to have a red to complement what i already have, a red, also from Japan.
He told me he did not have a red on hand and he was expecting new shipment but it turned out to be the gold version. I told him that I could wait and he amazingly looked out for me and told me in two days that he had spotted one from another supplier and would ship to me ASAP.
I just got the delivery and, it is a version 1.2 directly from Japan. What can I say? This guy is just amazing and certainly deserves this short write-up.
G-d knows what Panasonic were thinking?!?!
As far as I know, for a recent purchase of several units we did, Cameraland doesn't have hackable units anymore![]()
I ordered one of the $659.99 black "body only" GH1's from Cameraland's eBay auction (I just couldn't wait for the GH2). I paid the $10 extra to get it sent Priority Mail from NYC.
I think they're supposed to be US models...maybe Panny is giving them body-only shipments? They've apparently got a bunch of GH1 bodies for sale on eBay.
Not sure if it'll be hackable or not...I'm just happy it's supposedly a US model. 99% of the time I don't use the hack, and I just need it as a B-cam to my current hackable GH1. But I'll be sure to post back here in a couple of days when I find out for sure!
