Anyone use a SmallHD 502 (with sidefinder) on a canon C100 mkii ?

Am looking to buy the canon C100mkii possibly this week and wanted to throw in the following items.

- SmallHD 502 with sidefinder

- Zacuto Recoil V2 (with grip relocator)

- Zeiss zf.2 21mm Duclos Modded

- Zeiss zf.2 85mm Duclos Modded

Beyong what im buying the other lenses I have are

- Canon 24-105

- Zeiss ZE 50mm 1.4

Anything you would add? or Change here?

Let me know your thoughts! Thanks guys

One of Canon's 70-200 lenses is really useful on the C100. Make sure you can mount the sidefinder properly on that zacuto rig too.

I like all of it except the 24-105! Suggest going for the Canon 24-70 2.8 or Tamron 24-70 2.8 w/VC (I prefer the Tamron to the Canon for the VC). The 24-105 is a bit soft, and unless you're wide open (which is still only an f4), it stops down when you zoom in.. The range is nice though.

A 70-200 is a definite plus as well

Might also suggest a C100 mk1 instead of the mk2, as your Zeiss lenses wont work with the Autofocus (so you can't use that feature anyway), and you're going to use a 502 (so you don't need to worry about the screen/EVF). The mk2 is a bit colder, and with your setup, the only benefit you'll really get is shooting .mp4 instead, and 60p instead of 60i.... The cost savings of a Mk1 vs a Mk2 will more than buy you that missing 70-200 from your list as well! I can't justify the massive price jump to the mk2 over the mk1.

Edit -> Just noticed you said you have the 24-105 -> Get the C100 mk1, sell the 24-105, and you have enough for the 24-70 AND the 70-200, heh

17-55 is a better match to the S35 sensor than the 24-XX lenses. 24mm isn't really all that wide on S35.

i don't think you need the 502 or the Sidefinder since the MKII has both already unless you are going for a full shoulder setup. My review on Sidefinder os now up and includes lots of mounting options. Check it out!

I love the 70-200 2,8 IS lens. Magical!

The f4 70-200 version is also very good. Rated as one of the sharpest lenses Canon makes. It's much lighter and compact too so unless you need the 2-stops it might be something to think about

Thanks for the tips Erik. Yeah to this day I still dont have a full functioning shoulder setup. About to work on a short film and was going to go handheld a lot.

Figured the 502 would also serve as an accurate monitor.

Would you guys get the 70-200 modded? They do that on zooms right

I would also check out the Wooden Camera cheese plate that attaches at the top handle joint. Having the extra mounting options has saved me, and the top handle can feel loose (common problem) but the WC plate has relieved some of the play for me. The ninja star is also a worth wile invest IMO but you may not want to deal with an external recorder.

Agree on most of your choices. 70-200 Canons are both magic. I wouldn't get it modded, probably not worth the money and I am not sure if they mod that lens anyway.

At present I use the 70-200 f2.8 L IS II USM with the C300. It is a great lens. If you modify it then you lose the IS. The way Canon is working on their DPAF, losing IS means losing a lot.
