Been in contact with him for about 2 weeks about buying my AF100. Even spoke to him on the phone twice. He claimed to be a Los Angeles police officer on the phone; unsure if that's true.

He sent money today @ 11:30 via Paypal. I shipped out the package via UPS by 12:30 (an hour later) and sent him tracking number and all relevant shipping information.

Around 2:30 P.M. today he "reverses" the charges on Paypal claiming that "item was not received or as described". Phone calls, emails and PMs to him went unanswered.

Luckily, and score one for justice - I was able to go back to the UPS store where I dropped it off and get my shipment back. No free AF100 for Ismael this holiday season.

Be warned. His email is Gonzoish79@hotmail.com.

Thanks for the heads up, sparky33. This will serve as a cautious warning to us in the community.

It's unfortunate, sad and angering to see people trying to steal others' hard-earned money.

Is there any way through PayPal to prevent this? It certainly makes me very nervous that this could happen. My understanding was the onus was on PayPal to insure both parties were on the up and up,that the funds were in escrow until delivery could be verified. So how could this happen if he just sent the money and the you immediately went to UPS and sent off the camera? How much of a delay was there between getting the payment and sending the camera?

im new here and have bought a lot of items recently.
ive received items:
glidecam hd4000 without some screws (samtheman)
glidecam 4000pro without some screws (awelgraven)
rode videomic with original rubberbands changed to cheap ones (deucebigalow4)
rode videomic without hotshoe mount (C. Rock)
jib arm without weight lock or handle (caliwhite)

received 501hdv head, no issues, (USER- Aituv)
received glideacm4000pro with vest, no issues (Moderator- Alex H.)

how do i protect myself? and what can i do when these things happen?

He is/was verified on Paypal. I shipped it to his "verified" Paypal address. He opened a case with Paypal to get his money back right away. I'm convinced he was going to scam me all along, but when I shipped it with insurance and required his signature for delivery, it screwed him up so he did whatever he could to just get his money back. Unfortunately Paypal always sides with the buyer first.

Paypal has him under investigation now; they felt it was very suspicious that he paid @ 11:30 and filed a claim 2.5 hours later for "goods not received".

Timeline of events:

11:30 A.M. he paid me (this is all yesterday)
11:55 A.M. - I transferred the money from my Paypal account to my checking account
12:30 P.M. - Went to local UPS store, sent AF100 via UPS ground with insurance and signature required delivery confirmation.
1:00 P.M. Emailed him with tracking information
2:30 P.M. - Got "your paypal account is in the negative" email, followed immediately by the email stating the buyer has filed a claim for "item not received / as described".
2:31 P.M. - Called UPS, they hadn't shipped it out yet, luckily went and picked the camera back up.

Paypal really screws the seller, especially with their new rules that you cannot transfer the money until 30 days or you proved the items were delivered, which seems like it would make it pretty easy to do that sort of thing.

Luckily I think its safer to buy stuff here vs ebay since it's easier to check the person out, glad to see this didn't turn out worse!

ok so currently, i had an item shipped from canada. according to tracking, it was delivered. but i was at home and never received it. there was no signature for it and was marked as DO NOT DROP.

its still being sorted out, but just wondering whats the procedure in this case. as according to tracking, package was delivered. but i never got it. (this was done via paypal)

This happened to me in the past, paypal gave me the run around and said that since it was "delivered" my beef was with the post office rather than paypal. The package ended up magically appearing at the front door two days later, this actually happened quite a few times with them.

I'd call up the local post/or UPS whatever when they open and see what they have to say since paypal will likely treat you how they treated me.

thanks, well the seller said he contacted the post office . (only the seller can file a claim, so im waiting to see how that turns out)
so im waiting to get my manfrotto adapters

& hopefully my 701 head & CF Cards reach as well. ive had issues here, where days AFTER i paypal the money, the seller ships the item (info according to tracking data)

any advise on purchasing here? this is actually why i stick to local buyers & kijiji/craigslist and avoid ebay.
i actually messaged people i noticed living in canada to purchase items to avoid the whole customs & brokerage fees.

Although this thread is closed, I wanted to add three links for members who participate in the Marketplace to consider:

One involves the buyer identified here:

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthrea...DVXUSER-by-user-gonzoish79&highlight=gonzoish

Here is another sales thread where the buyer was a seller of another item:

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?226187-Sony-XDCAM-EX-PMW-EX1-2000-OBO

And finally a thread discussing possible ways to deal with sellers and buyers in the Marketplace to better assure up front sales and purchases:

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?137013-Marketplace-Improvement-Suggestion-Thread

Finally, I strongly urge all users of the Marketplace to read the rules posted in yellow at the top of the forum.

I regularly moderate this forum, and I'm seeing too many posts that plainly disregard those rules.

We're going to consider some potential changes for the Marketplace, but that process has only just started.

However, please remember to carefully evaluate potential purchasers and sellers when considering something here.

The internet is full of information about buyers and sellers, and our search function can also assist. Search by user profile, and you'll be provided with all posts made by that user.

Happy Thanksgiving.
