BUYDIG and the warranty issue

Hello. I am about to buy a AG-DVX100a. I was going to order from ibuydigital.com as they did have the lowest web price @ $2770. http://www.ibuydigital.com/main.cfm?fuseaction=all.proPage&product_id=2823 I think this place may not be legitate now though and I am looking at buydig.com I heard buydig isn't authroized as well and that there $300 rebate they're offering is BS.

Question, has the warranty been extended into May ?

If I buy from buydig.com will I recieve the book and magic bullet w/ my camcorder package and how sure can I be that I will get the $300 if the rebate is still going on.

thanks

rick

The warranty and rebate are different things. Buy a U.S. camera, get a U.S. warranty.
It hasn't been clarified whether the rebate actually ended April 29th or not.

You can be certain you will not get the $300 rebate from BuyDig.com
BuyDig.com is not an authorised US reseller. It's a deceptive sales technique.

rgdfilms - do a search around here and you'll see most of the guys trust EVSOnline.com - Not the cheapest but you are guaranteed a US camera w/warrenty not to mention the best personal support. Don't order online, call them and ask for Rush, he'll give you the DVXUser discount.

i'd venture to guess $2770 is well below what invoice price Panasonic USA charges authorized dealers for the dvx. what ploy ibuydigital.com will use with people who respond to that ad, i don't even want to speculate, but rest asured there are a few strings attached to that advertised price.

price comparison shopping is an unreliable way to buy prosumer camcorders because there are a lot of scams out there. read the "authorized dealers" thread on these boards for more info.

what kind of dvx-discount should I count on from Rush ? Is it significat or like $10 off ? just wondering because price is an issue right now

I believe the discount is 5%. But if price is an issue and you ABSOLUTELY need a camera now, then go for it. If it can wait, save up and save yourself the risk of potentially being ripped off.

Not sure of the exact amount of the discount but if it's 5% as DJ says then that's $172.50 off the list price of $3450. That's not bad considering you can be confident you get what you ordered, hassle free, from a source that is well trusted.

yeah that isn't bad actually if that is the case. Now do any of us have a confirmation on this rebate program ? Has it been extended ? If Panasonic is using the 'rebate' as way to get consumers to buy US models then I would think they would let this run indefinetly, kinda like the Canon GL2 rebate that just keeps recycling itself.

Well, apparently the DVXUser discount has gone down at EVS. If you live outside of LA, the discount is only 1.5% if you're paying with a credit card. At least that's the info I got from Rush a couple of weeks ago.

I think the deal is $100 off $3450 paid with check/moneyorder/transfer/cash
It's less if you pay with CC because of the 2-3% unavoidable transaction fee.

Right. That's exactly what many people are thinking. They recently changed the wording on the website from "Ends April 29th" to "Limited Time Only" No confirmation on what this means. Remember, the 29th was a Friday and Panasonic has been "officially" closed since then.. I would expect some confirmation on this tomorrow....

I have a feeling they will extend. What do you guys think of Proreel ? They seem pretty reputable and have a good price. ANyone order from them ?
thanks

Profeel? Definitely not an authorised dealer, either.
Basically, any dealer with a price less than $3350 is not authorised.

I know they are not authorized but are they more of a reliable source that will sell a USA model not a gray market model ? If I were to click on ibuydigital.com I could tell based on their site design and their user feedback what my chances of recieving a gray market value AG-DVX100a would be, if I looked at Profeel, I would expect what I paid for. Does it matter where I bought my Panny for the rebate program ? Like if I buy from Profeel and it turns out I did get a US model, would I still get the $300 back ?

this is really confusing..

No non-authorized dealer can buy cameras from Panasonic. So there's no guarantee that you'll be getting a USA model vs. a gray model.

Authorized dealers are guaranteed to be delivering USA product (if they sell gray, Panasonic will terminate their dealership). Non-authorized dealers cannot guarantee that they will be able to get USA product. They may, or they may not, but because they're not authorized they have to get product where they can. If they found an authorized dealer willing to sell them US cameras under the table, then they may actually be able to have USA product. But if their supply dries up, they may have to go gray. Or they may be selling gray at the same time. Who gets burned with gray product -- you? The next guy? There's no way to know, until you actually get it and file for the rebate and hold your breath as to whether you got a legit one or not.

Buy from an authorized reseller and you won't have any of those worries.

www.dvxuser.com/V3/showthread.php?t=12271 try the authorized dealers thread

www.resellerratings.com this thread will allow you to check feedback on specific retailers

www.donwiss.com/pictures/BrooklynStores/ here is a link posted recently by PDX DVX. It is a photo site by someone in NYC who went around to the different "camera stores" offering all these great deals and took some pictures. as they say, a picture is worth a 1000 words.

a suggested exercise to help clear up your confusion: try comparing the Broadway Photo Web Site & Ads (Pretty impressive) to their reseller rating (dismal) and photo (astounding).

you are highly unlikely to get this camera for much less than the EVS or B&H price unless you get it used.

Not surprising. Here is the ibuydigital.com business office:

egad that's one ugly looking door. no thanks. i checked the user reviews for profeel.com and discovered someone who bought an AG-DVX who was worried about the gray market thing, he recently recieved his $300 rebate. I think we should be worried about this gray markety issue but we need to take into account that there are Authorized Panasonic dealers who are charging the usual 3300-3800, there are the non-authorized dealers charging 3000-3300 then there are the scammers who are charging less than three Gs, the ones with shady websites and shady names like ibuydigital. I dont know, profeel sounds pretty legit to me.

Probably best would be to actually call EVS and ask Rush what deal he can do for you. He may not even have any cameras left by the time you call. But numbers quoted so far are not correct according to my math. I just ordered one...
