BUYDIG and the warranty issue

No non-authorized dealer can buy cameras from Panasonic. So there's no guarantee that you'll be getting a USA model vs. a gray model.

Authorized dealers are guaranteed to be delivering USA product (if they sell gray, Panasonic will terminate their dealership).

Not true Barry. I just returned a used (New, never used condition) DVX back to B&H photo. After checking the serial number with Jan, it turned up grey.

that's a bummer and good of you to point out. i'd think that it absolutely should not happen.
but the thing is that as an authorized dealer they have a vested interest in correcting the problem. did they fix the problem for you? without you having to dispute the charge, involve the NY Attn Gen, and all kinds of other headaches? bet you have had a lot less hassle than someone who had the same initial problem with Broadway Photo for example.

Oooohhhh... that's bad...

Did they represent it as "gray"? Because B&H has long had a history of selling both authorized and gray merchandise, but they are supposed to clearly label that which is gray so the user knows what they're getting. They're one of the few sites I've seen that will explain the difference, giving the customer the choice.

If they sold you gray-market and represented it as authorized... that's pretty bad. That's really bad. I'm sure Jan will have a little chat with them.

I originally ordered online. The night I saw the grey DVX posted, was the night the passover began. B&H was closed. So I didn't talk to anybody on the phone. While online, I went to check out the NEW section of the DVX cameras, and noticed they had a section of used DVX's underneath the order button of the new DVX. When I clicked that button, I was switched to the used section. I noticed the used DVX, was in "N" condition, ("N"=new, never used) and $2,795, I figured for that price, I could live without the rebate, book, DVD, and even the MB, because I could always call Jan to get the MB, and it was B&H I was safe. No way they would send me a grey market DVX. No way...When the box came, it was empty of the goodies. No MB, book, dvd, just a brand new, zero hour DVX 100AP. That's when I called Jan and gave a serial number, and found out it was grey. When I called to return the grey camera, I was automatically switched to customer service. When I said I had a grey market camera from B&H, the guy was like ok your RMA# is...
He didn't transfer me to anybody, or say anything else, like "how do you know", or "we are authorized", you know the NY attitude. Nothing.
I'll keep you guys posted.
BTW, When I received the DVX from B&H, it had zero hours, when I returned it, the camera had 4 hours. So we'll see what happens.

ZordonFilm,
That seems reasonable to me that it obviously wasn't a US camera..
I bought my 50mm f/1.4 EOS lens from B&H and it was listed in a similar way.
10% less than the "new" product. Doesn't sound like they've been deceptive here to me, anyway.

Really when it comes down to it a used camera or a used lens does not have a US
warranty and neither did the camera you bought, so what's the difference really?

Is Jan Crittenden offering free copies of a $300 software package to people that call her direct line?
I've never heard of it.

If a dealer advertises that it is offering a Usa warrantied camera and they send you a grey market version you can get one up on them in some cases. i bought one from digital megastore and the one i received wasnt covered under Usa warranty or rebate. called them back and bitched about it, and voila, i got a Usa/non greymarket w/ book and software for $2600 after rebate.
