+/- button

Hey. I seen someone ask where the +/- button was and what it did. Here's what I do in dark and noisy situations. I don't use the kholi trick, but maybe this is just another version of it. I had a 50mm 1.8 and adjusted the +/- to -1.3 using the thumb wheel and holding the button down and got a nice clean image in a dark room. No noise or grain. I also shot it at 0 and lots of noise, but a brighter image. I let the exposure do the work and then locked it when I found a nice enough image. I've uploaded the videos to compare the two and a picture for you to show you where it's at.

It is a bit of a "catch 22"here in Europe...

I found that in order to get rid of most severe scrolling lines shooting under artificial light, (Indore or night scene) I actually need to adjust up to the plus side of the +/-. Now, as Car3o is suggesting to get a cleaner image in the same light conditions you need to adjust down to minus.....If I do as suggested the scrolling lines are very bad.

Firmware update soon please.....

I just tested this with my D90 (bought one last week, forgot to mention anywhere). The -1.3 trick works wonders. I had been trying to do the other tricks with lock exposure and stuff but when I looked at the footage afterwards it was always noisy. Now, my footage is noise free! Thanks!

I tried it with my 50mm and -1.3, works like a charm!! What I am noticing, the more negative number, the more shutter goes up, i think at -5.0 its at 1/4000-ish. Not sure if this has been established as a fact but I have noticed it.

The low-light quality is ridiculous...gonna play with it more.

That is probably because the light in your apartments will give an ISO of about 800. When using an exposure compensation of about -1 you will get about ISO 400 which is not as grainy.

The camera is simply choosing the ISO and shutter which will give a correct exposure with the available light. Doubling the amount of light or stopping up the lens one stop will give the same result as choosing -1 EV.
