Exactly. I'm coming to the same conclusion. I found postings on other sites with the same symptoms and the same response from Canon.
Aldogin, are you experiencing static shocks? ESD doesn't have to be felt to be damaging, but it might be an indicator that you are in a poor environment. The fact that you blew it out twice says something like that may be happening.
